Wall Art above sofa

Hung my wall art based on the position of the sofa. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Thank you for the advice.

That looks like a Sang Han painting.

I think the group of four are too high and I'd take the runner off the coffee table but otherwise it looks great!

The ones behind the sofa are to high and I never like contrived pillow and throw placement there is no way those sofas look like I can just sit down without rearranging everything. One pillow in each corner and maybe a throw over the back.

I do like the runner on the coffee table.

I'd move the framed art about two-three inches down -- you don't want to move it so far down that it's at crotch level (but I'm tall), and I'd leave the oar where it is. Nor do you want tall guests banging their heads against art you have on the wall, either.

I'm not really fond of clutter pillows. I don't want to be rudely tossing them on the floor just to get comfortable if I were to sit there.

Agree the art, though nice, is too high. Try espc10's suggestion with the paddle.

The oar is slim enough that it just might work under the art. The art selection is nice!

I made some balance, lowered everything on wall.

^^^Yes...and much easier to move just the oar. If you look online for "wall art over sofa" you'll see some examples of proper distance between sofa and art. Hanging it too high looks disconnected and kind of "floating" up there.

I was worried they were a bit high. But the hubby, who is over 6', said it was good. I also have lower ceilings as this is in the basement of my home. The pillows are because I'm a pillow addict. And the throws are because this is a basement and it gets chilly. I will see about lowering the pictures and oar. Thanks for the advice. The painting is signed as W. Mirkin.

@celerygirl YES!!! So much better! I WILL be moving them. Thanks for the visual.

Laura, I'm tall (5' 9") and hubby's 6' 2". There was a time when I hung everything too high. It took awhile but I finally realized how much better lower looked. You'll see varying opinions, but about 6 to 8 inches between sofa and art can work well.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>@chloebud❤️ It is sometimes a struggle with the hubby. I had a gut feeling it was too high but he grumbled. Next time I'll have to just go with my gut.

    I can relate! ;-)

Now I'm thinking my upstairs living room grouping is too high and don't judge, I love pillows.

@celerygirl I just noticed that you changed the window cover and I love that idea! There are 3 small windows along that wall and we hate the cloth curtains. Thank you!

I like the LR set-up and oar hanging high too.

confused ... don't even tall people usually find their heads resting on the softie top? Try the oar under the art. If he doesn't like it haha tell him to row the boat. ;-)

The basement photos would also look better if they were closer together. An arrangement over a sofa looks best when it covers 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of the sofa.

Love your upstairs too except the coffee table. I think a nice round something or other would be fantastic!

Laura I think your upstairs art over that sofa is fine as is. Lovely set-up.

Go ahead and keep the clutter pillows if you love them but don't be offended if guests with bad backs (hi there) need to put them on the floor in order to be comfortable. I personally dislike them, but it is because I see what my back will spasm out into just by looking at them.

@MelissaR I love those coffee tables! I would have to convince the hubby they are better than the one we have ;)
@artemis_ma, I totally get that. I do have a wicker basket to stack the pillows away when not needed ;)

It would have been a hassle (for me) to re-hang the 4 pictures and the oar so I found a couple little tidbits to complete the group. I'm still working on finding bamboo type window covers, any suggestions? The windows are very small.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions from you all.
