I think that depends on how hard you and your fellow chefs are on your cooktop. I have had a frameless mounted on top of granite for almost 4 years now. I have never felt concerned about chipping/cracking. I don’t slide cookware from counter to top. I don’t prep next to my cooktop. The areas on both sides of my cooktop are landing zones. If sliding pans is your cooking style or if areas next to your cooktop see a lot of action then a framed top may be a better choice. Any freak drop of a pan or other heavy object onto your cooktop could cause damage. If it is on the edge than yes the frame may protect It.

I’m with Kim G. Same arrangement, Bosch frameless, no issues. I like the look and the ease of cleaning. We are careful but not paranoid. Redoing a new kitchen right now in a different house and we love the rimless Bosch so much, putting in precisely the same thing.

i have a rimless electric cooktop and my cleaning people have managed to chip the edges. For my next induction cooktop I'm going with a metal rim for that reason.
