Help with bookshelf styling?
Hi all,
Got this new modular shelf from Blu Dot yesterday and need some help figuring out what to display on it. This area is a game table in my living room—it's not a dining area.
My challenge is that I don't like clutter, so I don't want to fill the shelves up with loads of random knick knacks. The obvious option would be to fill it with books, which I'm not opposed to, but I want the shelf to make a statement since this is in my living room vs office (where my books are).
I'm also open to starting a new collection to display here—vintage art glass perhaps? Or maybe some MCM pottery?
The shelf is modular, each piece can be moved around to customize the design of the shelf. I'm thinking about buying a few more pieces to add some additional height, as I feel it may be too short right now (66" tall).
Any suggestions or inspiration photos would be super appreciated!

Patricia Colwell Consulting - Good point about knowing what you want to display before buying shelving. I had purchased these shelves to replace a bookcase in my office that is used to store books. When I brought it in, I thought it might work over by the game table instead. I may still move it into the office, if I can't get decide what to do here. Regarding game storage, I already have a cabinet nearby where all that is stored. I really like the idea of vintage game pieces. I also agree that there needs to be some art on that wall. I collect art and have tons of options to choose from. Would just need to pull them out of archival storage and get them framed. I was thinking about using these pieces I have by Ben Eine.
Or do something more subdued like these two pieces by Cleon Peterson.
Or maybe these by Brooklyn artist RAE?
Lots to think about!
