My favourite Hosta flowers for the last couple of years are on this Summer Breeze seedling.

I didn’t get many good pics last year in general, and fewer still of flowers. Wish I had one of Manhattan blooming. Plantaginea started to bloom, and then the rabbit got it. But here’s one from June 15... it’s a bit of a mess because I had clustered quite a few potted hostas in front of that JM because that spot has a good sun/shade mix.

Back left, tall straight scapes of Gold Regal, far right Sun Power, foreground row of Lemon Limes- which bloomed at least three times last summer. I like all of these in bloom because the scapes are straight and neat.

My favorite flower came from Gila River. Had no idea they would be this big and beautiful.

Doubled Up was new last year, but a nice big fragrant. I read somewhere it had double flowers, so maybe this year.Not usually impressed by the flowers, but Island Breeze really flowers nicely.

Love the pictures of the flowers. I look forward to seeing my hosta bloom. Pieter you take beautiful pictures of your flowers.

it never occurred to me to take close ups of hosta blooms..they're prettier than I gave them credit for..I want to give it a try this year..I don't have much to post..these blooms have a fantastic fragrance..I think this is a Honeybells but some have said Royal Standard..the fragrance is so great I lean towards Honeybells..

I have Krossa Regals in several locations..they have the tallest scapes of all of my hostas..that's it for me..

Sunnywood, that picture of 'Bridegroom' shows flowers that are much darker than the ones shown for this cultivar on the HL. When it's back up this year compare it with what's shown and see how the plant/leaves/flowers compare, there's the distinct possibility the plant is mislabelled.

Sunnywood, those flowers look like something ventricosa derived, like Stirfry or Holly's Velvet Piecrust, which could have easily been mis-labeled at the nursery.

Sunnywood, pictures of the plant itself would aid in identification and to keep it from getting lost in the shuffle of this thread, I would suggest opening a new topic with the pictures you have of it. Steve's suggestion of 'Stirfry' warrants comparing it with 'Bridegroom' using my Hosta Comparison routine.

Most of my pictures are taken early in the season before they flower and I don't pay them much attention when they do flower. From the looks here, I'm missing out. The few pics I could find, I can't identify.

I am/was as well guilty of not liking the flowers of the hostas. But since the awareness of the Bee situation, I have not cut them and quite frankly agree that they are part of the beauty of the plant. I only used to leave the fragrant completely bloom.

Shadow good for you and the bees! There is only one I cut the flowers from.

I routinely cut the scapes from Undulata Albomarginata because they interfere with seeing the plant/flowers of Sum and Substance behind.

nicholsworth I can't find the pics right now but I have Regal Splendor behind Crocosmia and while the Crocosmia is hands down the favorite of hummingbirds (even more than Lonicera & Monarda) they take occasional sips from RS like a palette cleanser lol!

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I've been spying on this discussion board for almost a year now. I remember that I first stumbled into this discussion when I came to realize that the hostas that I saw at the nursery looked almost nothing like the mature plant, so I was using the photos of all your beautiful hostas to look up what hostas I wanted for my garden based on some of your more mature plants and thoughts. Before long, I was reading the posts on "you know you are addicted to hostas when... " And " how many hostas did you own before you realized you were addicted." I couldn't stop laughing and thought "oh no, I'm in trouble....".

My name is Erin, I am 35, and I have been gardening a bit obsessively for about 8 or 9 years. I can't grow a vegetable to save my life, but I seem to have inherited a love and talent for gardening with the pretty stuff from my grandma. I was happy enough just watching you guys all talk about your hostas and looking at all your pics, but I don't have too many people (other than grandma and my mother in law) who I can talk plants to without watching as their eyes glaze over so I finally decided to join. I've hopefully (if I did it right) included my fav guacamole flower pic.

I must confess I generally cut the flowers off but those blooms of Athena and white fairy practically glow! They would be stunning in a white garden.

My bad, I thought it was a japanese beetle, but when I click on it I can clearly see the bee. Gotta love the bees (especially with the birds).
