LVP installation

The contractor suggest to lay down the luxury vinyl plank before the cabinet. Once the cabinet is installed he will cut the floor around the cabinet so that the floor can still float freely. He will then use the toe kick to cover the edges he cut. Does anyone have similar experience? I have read comments on installing cabinet first before the floor but thinking what contractor says makes sense too.

We just had an island installed over LVP and they cut out the flooring beneath where the island was placed so the floor would float and put in the lovely floor molding all around. No issues, seemed scary but looks perfect.

Oops our flooring was high grade laminate. Should be the same concept though.

In other words, the contractor has the flooring installer lined up before the kitchen installers. The GC will "sacrifice" the cost of materials (you don't "need" flooring under cabinets...which means a waste of flooring product that will be absolutely useless in the future) for the speed/ease of installation and keeping the build "on track". The small amount of wasted materials (the cabinet foot print is often 10%-15% of the actual foot print of the kitchen) makes it a 'no brainer' for a GC. The materials are cheap compared to the cost of installers. And keeping a build "on schedule" means the GC saves money/time on "late penalties".

I agree that there is "no issue" with this form of install. So long as the floor is cut so that it may continue to float, you should be fine. Just make sure they do not use underpad if this is LVP...most vinyl products (like 99% of all vinyls on the market) do NOT allow underpad. Just sayin'.
