Congrats on your new place! Always exciting. My advice to you is to figure out your needs to determine furniture layout. Make a room layout on graph paper and measure your existing furniture. Figure out where you want things to go. What makes sense to you in terms of room functions? Does the bed go here or there? Seating? What type of light will you appreciate from the window? Do you need a blackout solution to sleep better? Decide on your budget. List all the elements you'll need and want for the space and prioritize them. (Needs and wants can be very different.) What will make it feel more like "home" to you? Functional storage or decor, for example? (Do you buy wall art before dressers, etc?) Find your decor inspiration by looking online (here on Houzz or Pinterest or a multitude of design blogs) or in shelter mags. One online source that's great for renters is Apartment Therapy. Is it a studio apartment?

Congratulations on your first apartment! Figure out placement of furniture first. Try Letgo or Offer Up for some good deals on pieces you will need at a great price. Also, if you have a Ross/Marshalls/TJ Maxx, they have great prices on rugs. You might want to consider a rug to break up the space a bit. Is it a studio? If it is a studio and the closet is a decent size, you may want to consider putting the dresser (if it will fit) inside the closet to allow more floor space. Some plants will make it feel cozy and there is affordable artwork at stores like Ross and Marshalls.

What colors do you love? Was there any furniture at your parents' home or elsewhere that you loved? Why? What made it special?

I encourage you to take you time. You do not need to get it decorated quickly, and if you go slowly you'll find things you love rather than things that just fill in gaps. Check CraigsList too. I'd recommend being very fussy there. Do not buy anything you are not absolutely, positively in love with. It can take hundreds or even thousands of ads until you find something but the wait it worth it. (That said, if your town is known to have bedbug problems be very cautious of upholstered furniture. I'd stay away from areas of town that students dominate.) People who have lived in their homes for a long time, that is, those, especially seniors, who are moving and downsizing, might have good things. Again, take your time.

I agree that Apartment Therapy is a good place (in addition to Houzz, of course). If you search through the archives of both places for "small space" you'll get a lot of ideas. Where is the bed, nightstand and dresser in the room?

Sorry for the late reply y’all have been very helpful. I called them and for whatever reason they didn’t really specify the dimensions which is a little frustrating for planning. I know I have a queen size bed a dresser and a nightstand. All the furniture is rearrangeable! If y’all have any ideas of wall art you think would spice up my room I would love to see it! I think I want to get a classy head board and a desk with fake plants on it and maybe an accent chair. I’m just looking for a matching color scheme if y’all have any ideas. I really like dark colors because it looks aesthetic. And I y’all have any ideas for the small bathroom decor I would also love to hear that. You don't need a rug on the carpet. I would start with the bedding since that is the biggest piece in the room. Look for something you love that will coordinate with the black furniture. Depending on what you find, you can use the colors from the bedding and repeat some of that in your artwork.

I agree with calidesign. Pick out the bedding first and then use that as an accent color around the room. What colors do you like?

Will you want a desk (IKEA?) with a lamp and/or a lamp for your night stand?

Honestly if you have decent sheets, 2 pillows, a comforter with a bed skirt and one nice, large piece of art you will be doing waaaayyyy better than 90% of the guys I dated when I was younger. Curtains on an actual curtain rod will put you abouve 95% of them.

What we all want to know is, is this the entire space or is there a separate bedroom to the living area?

I have a kitchen with and living room but I’m not necessarily worried about decorating that one because I’m sharing it with some of my friends so it’s more so going to be a man cave. However I wanted to add a little class to my room to diminish the college feel of my living room. Hence why I am focused on mostly my room and bathroom!

I’d keep it simple. Black, white, wood. Always a clean, easy, masculine look. I’d get white sheets, a black comforter set, and a white duvet that is nice and snuggly. Get all black or wood tone furniture accents. A nice live plant. A few pieces of art you like framed in black. White curtains.

White bedding is tricky. Over time, it will get a yellow cast (from sweat & body oil) even with regular washing. Think color/patterns.

I would invest in a good bedding set. Duvet/cover, sheets and extra pillows. This blue is nice, or gray. No bed in a bag cheep comforter set!

Brooklinen, Parachute. Don't know the quality, but Ikea has nice looking bedding. They may also be a great place for accents/decor. Once you get pictures of your furniture in the space, you will get lots of help here to fine tune your layout and decor!

Does anyone know a good way to hide my tv cord after I mount it? I can’t put a hole in the wall to go through the drywall so I don’t know what to do to make my TV look sleek

Is there a vertical top of some sort under the television? If so, how about a small object or vase of flowers, or if it's taller a tall vase of flowers or sculpture?

Try a cord cover concealer kit.

Just a quick word of advice that may save you a headache and money later--think twice about mounting the TV unless you have explicit permission from the landlord. You may incur some unexpected repair costs when the mounting system is removed. Perhaps look for a piece of furniture that can double as storage and a TV console.

I found a a mount that doesn’t make intrusive holes. We are allowed to make fine size holes in the wall and there is a company with very good reviews that only uses nails to mount the tv! But I really hate the idea of cords

Okay thanks! Does anyone have any suggestions or brands that are good to make your mattress softer we already are provided a mattress but I want it to be as cold and soft as possible

Those mattresses are usually not good. A (2-3") mattress topper will help a lot.

I would get a dresser and put the TV on top. If only using nails to mount I think they need to go in a stud and not sure you want them to dictate where it goes based on where the studs are. The bonus is with a TV on top the dresser hides any cords and you have extra storage.

Do you really need a desk? if so maybe consider a secretary and put the TV on top and use for a desk for double duty as well. Where is the TV outlet?

What colors do you like? That would help you decide what to pick for bedding.

What your room is more triangular than rectangular, and I would say about 15x15x20? Somewhere on the listing there's a plan so just copy that and show us...

Anyway...why not put the tv on your dresser...

For the bathroom, do you have any favorite black and white photos? I think black and white is classy (plus stuff is easy to find anywhere and inexpensive) and you can have either white towels that you can bleach, or black towels that won't show---anything.

No animal prints if you are straight. I knew single guys that had animal prints in their apartments, it was ALWAYS a bad sign.
