You mean a light rail? We added a modest one (1" x 0.75") so we would have a place to hide our undercabinet lighting. It is simple, just a strip of wood, so it didn't look too fussy with our Shaker style cabinets. If you can do it in a simple way and if you wanted undercabinet lighting, it's a good idea.

I'm with Pam A. You don't want the cabinet to be flat on the bottom. You need a little of a recess under cabinet for lights. Some under the cabinet stuff requires a recess like pull down knife or cook book holders need one.

I got it and I regretted it. A year later I pulled it off and it looks so much cleaner with shaker cabinets.

But, you can buy it, install the cabinets, then hold up the piece to see if you like it. If you don't like it try to return it.

Kitchen that are large, wide with high ceiling can handle the extra detailing without looking heavy. But when I see it on smaller kitchen I fell like it is too much and the less is more rule applies here.

A lot of cabinets these days have a recess on the bottom of the uppers for under cabinet lighting. Do you not have this? If not and you want under cabinet lighting, add a small plain piece of moulding - plain so that there is no attention drawn to it.
