Kitchen Sink selection

We’re replacing our kitchen counters and sinks. At the local showroom they quoted me prices on Luxart Silgranit sinks. However, when I did an Internet search for price comparison all I could find was something called Blanco Silgranit. I would think Silgranit is proprietary, so I am very confused. Are these companies the same? Is one a more inexpensive subsidiary? The Blanco brand sinks were much much less expensive than the Luxart quoted at the show room.

Here’s what the company told me (via Twitter, the only way I got a response).

Good morning! BLANCO produces the Luxart brand sinks. We use the same scientifically proven SILGRANIT material and certify both the material and quality hand crafted care to perform for a lifetime.

Interesting. I can’t wait to hear what the story is with this. Slingranit seemed like Blancos property. Those sinks look like Blancos. Surely someone here will have the scoop for us.

Same thing has happened to us with our Silgranit quote, which is how I found your post. I know that Luxart is a Chinese company, so I'm not sure how the two are getting tied together. Waiting to get an answer from our KD.

Good to know, thanks! Odd that this hasn't been mentioned here before.

I wonder if Blanco would have the same response?

This response came from BLANCO America’s Twitter account.

Ah okay. You said “the company”, and I assumed it was Luxart. I have heard of a few Chinese companies basically stealing the patents and identities of American companies (interesting piece on NPR last week, in fact), so was worried this was the same.

Interesting. So the Chinese company has to pay Blanco and can still sell the sink for significantly less money. I wonder how you pursue defects with the sink. Through Blanco? Probably you would have to go through Luxart. I would read up on blanco threads and see how often broken sinks are delivered. That would be a concern for me. They break in delivery and Blanco replaces them without fuss.

CORRECTION: Blanco is cheaper than Luxart.

I think that the OP said that the Blanco branded sinks were much less expensive than the Luxart. This is odd, indeed!

I have a Blanco silgranite sink. Blanco stands behind their product. These sinks are beautiful but they can be chipped. You need a good warranty.

The Luxart warranty appears to be via Blanco.
