Bad bad tile :/

So we have some tile that covers basically the entire bottom of the house...
This goes beyond regular Saltillo tile. I’m not exactly sure what it is... but it really isn’t an option to change right now unfortunately.

I saw a similar post that suggested painting everything a cream color.

Are you just moving in or looking for a change? It looks like someone painted a fashionable cool gray and white recently- do you want to change both? The cool colors contrast with your floors.

    We've seen much worse here!

Too bad they didn't lay it with the pattern/grain going in the same direction and in a stacked layout. Would have looked less choppy.

The blue-ish gray wall color makes your floors look very orange. I would paint a different color.

I can't see the whole space, but I would look at painting the wall area above the cabinets the same white color as the cabinets. Removing that horizontal band will make the space look less busy.

Have you tried changing out the bulbs in your lights to see what looks best?

Agree with others that the tile is fine, it is the combo with the other colours you (or someone) have chosen that doesn't work.

I actually like the alternating orientation of the tile. It gives it a modern feel and keeps it from making the space look too long or too wide.

You can still have grey - it just has to be a warm grey. But, I agree, cream or tan would probably be better.

What are you willing to redo at this point? Backsplash? Paint walls? paint cabinets? Is there a budget?

Thanks for everyone’s input! This site is awesome :)

Definitely willing to redo some things. Paint and backsplash are possibilities, as are fixtures. Budget is about $1000. Unfortunately this eliminates the possibility of floating floors.

some other angles / daylight also

The cool blue paint is not helping at all. I agree that it's not the best, but I would save your money till you can replace it. Laying LVT over it would be a budget friendly option.

If you like gray, consider a green / gray (SW Sea Salt, SW Rainwashed) as these tend to bridge the cool / warm divide. Get a sample jar first - Lowe's has SW paint samples for about $3.50 and paint some large pieces of foam board and observe them in different lighting and different times of the day.

I have a warm toned home with cream walls and like that feel very much, but if you want more color, there are many options - many that would look pretty with the floor. Cool gray is just not one of them.

I’m not married to grey or blue. — some adjacent rooms are painted gray, and the bathroom is painted blue. (Rooms separated by a doorway can have a different schemes right)?

I really just want this whole mess here to match.

It sounds like I should do away with this greyblue wall paint in favor of warm creamy white. (“Country white” I’m thinking)
And then maybe something with the backsplash?

    Apologies for the clutter

That kitchen color is killing it...

The view of the other rooms doesn't seem awful at all, but monitors never show the true colors.

Be careful with white. You don't want it to look like you're mistakenly trying to match the cabinets. In other words, a white has to match or be quite different...

Hopefully, this bump will help you get some recommendations, but you really need warm colors with that floor...Do you like green? Some greens work well with honey-ish colors...

These images are more traditional tiles than yours, but I think the colors might be similar? I agree with pennydesign that green might be a nice choice. And, again, hopefully one of the design geniuses will pop in with some advice, too:

Wow! Certain shades of green actually look really good with Saltillo. I never would have imagined

Still I think I’m leaning towards the creamy white, just painting over the blue/grey. The existing white white is a pure white running up from the trim and the other white is very warm and yellowish. I think I am going to do the bathroom this green color.

I appreciate all the input. So the tile isn’t absolutely terrible? With the right colors do you think they could work long term?

    Thanks!

Of course the tile isn't terrible...Just get a couple sample pots of the warmer whites (again...make it a big enough difference that it looks deliberate) and a couple greens..

Have a look at Sherwin Williams Haven or Nurture Green? (nothing that leans toward the blue side...

    Maybe look a Marshmallow...

You can start a thread for "whites that go with this floor."..You might get more help as this issue has been discussed before with oak cabinets (same color family as your tile)

Also check your lighting as it can warm up or cool down colors...

Not too much floor to show here, but you could see white furniture against cream walls and orangy floor:

Look at “Must-Try Color Combo: White With Warm Off-White” story

One of the things a green would do, besides neutralize some of the orange tones, would give you an interesting and pretty color to look at besides the floors. Right now, except for the poorly contrasting blue/gray, every thing is white except the floor, so it really stands out. I would paint the wainscotting in the kitchen/dining area the same green and eliminate the white there.

I would also get some colorful rugs/runners in the kitchen and other large expanses of tile to cover some of it.

Not so bad. I would go ahead and paint everything white! Embrace the floor color by adding tribal rugs in complimentary tones; chose darker furnishings with a contemporary feel and then add some color such as turquoise for added interest.

Not a pro, but Definitively, I go for cream!

Capital White BM is a really good white.
