Let’s decide what to put here

I had originally planned to put tile up to the ceiling over the cooktop but after looking at thousands of pictures I couldn’t find a similar design.
Here’s the issue, most kitchens have some sort of cabinetry above the range hood to hide the exhaust pipe or have a decorative range hood showing the entire pipe. Mine has a hood that sticks out and goes into the wall so there’s no cabinet above.
BTW-Kitchen is not finished: paint walls (Agreeable Gray) and new tile (gray subway)

I’m not sure if I should:
1. Tile all the way up
2. Paint the same color as the walls
3. Paint the same color as the cabinets
4. Paint cabinet color and add some moulding?

What would you suggest?

I would leave it painted the same color as the walls.

I would consider something other than gray tile for the backsplash. I think it might be too gray.

Wow, I envy those fridges. Two? So awesome.

I would NOT tile above the hood. I would use that space for something really interesting but useful, like a beautiful wall clock or other piece of wipeable art.

It could be my monitor, but I see the faintest green in that gray color. I like it, if you could find a tile in the lightest shade of that gray/green I think it would be pretty. But I think it needs to be a faint whisper of color (almost like a white that leans in that direction as opposed to a real gray).

I would keep it the same color as the walls.

You could add a little trim above the hood to finish it off.

Below has a lot of trim above the hood.

I'm sure you know you are missing trim each side of the stove.

The wall color is too dark (LRV 28) so I’m trying to lighten it up. That’s why I painted the cabinets and replaced the countertop.
I will probably put something eye catching above the hood.

but why would you want people to look up at your stove hood?

Cpartist here is the tile. It goes really well with the Cambria Brittanica.

I wouldn't tile above the hood; I'd use the same paint as the walls. Love your kitchen!

I would get a panel that is similar to what the cabinet doors are made off and paint it the same color as the cabinets( the sides that are sticking out too). Maybe even consider some moulding on it that goes with the cabinet doors. To me it reads as part of the range, and ties the hood with the cabinets together. By painting it the same color as the wall, the range good looks like this little awning. Even angel's example shows how they made it look like part of the cabinets.

Does not make sense. You painted the cabinets and replaced countertop because the

wall color is too dark? Could have just repainted the walls, but don't think that was

the real reason you painted the cabinets.

Angel you’re right that’s not the only reason. I wanted to update the kitchen bc this is our retirement home. Our present home has the dark cabinets and countertops similar to this new home ( new to us) and I am tired of the look. It’s a north facing kitchen with lots of trees outside so what sunlight there is, is blocked by the trees.
The wall color that is there is SW Felted Wool and it reads too dark.

Wow groveraxle!! That looks great! Thanks for doing that!

Totally understand. We used to have a home in a wooded area, and the HOA limited what trees could be taken down. Couldn't take being in the dark - love the light and sunshine.

Does it look like I need to have the trim painted the same color as the cabinets?
