I love the red, it really compliments the classic, simple design of the house! If you don't want to stay with all red (which will work if you add some other design elements like stone wall or planter, or a fence, and so forth) then I would suggest a warm gray trim, and front door, and perhaps add some beefier trim around the windows. No shutters, window boxes would work, but I would rather see a mix of loose textures, heights and colors in the planting bed between the house and path though. The small shrubs there are a nice start.

Can you enlarge the entry area a bit? I can't really tell if there is a step up there or not.

Love celerey girl's green trim windows--or blakc--which don't need shutters.Window boxes of trailing plants would be stunning. Work with a small garden center on the small amount of landscaping trailing to the side. A new pathway would be great. The red siding is a knockout. Congratulations on scoring such a lovely house.

I love red with dark brown, a step down from the intensity of black.

I really like celery's green. I would beef up the posts on the portico and paint it too. I think this house is adorable. With the right trim it will rock!

A pergola over the garage would look so great! I'd probably prefer one that has posts to the ground, to allow for some climbing plants (like roses, perhaps) -- if there is room, not sure there is.

Even if you can't re-do the portico to one a bit larger, you should consider enlarging the porch under it, to make the entrance a bit more important and welcoming.
