Have you thought about moving the stunning cabinet and mirror off the rug and onto the wood floor in the area that you want to pop? A rug that contrasts more with the floor would also be an idea. And with the red figurine on the chest - how about a red rug? Oriental design? Or did I misunderstand? I read your request as wanting something in the wood floor area where the almost blank blue wall is. ( Move the small framed picture to another area of your home.)

Or if the security pad(?) and light switch are a problem, put the chest under the light switches with a display on top (including red figurine and red rug?) and put the mirror to the left of the security pad (thus to the right of where it is now) with one of your dining room chairs under it.

I have thought about an area rug except that the flooring is fairly new and still somewhat of a novelty. Hence the small rug that's there. Chandelier is a good idea.

I have definitely considered moving the cabinet off the carpet onto the floor but didn't know what would become of the area it would be leaving.

I think I will try your idea of placement under the lightswitch and the mirror to the side of the touchpad - Both problems - and a dining table chair below it.

I wonder if you think the red piece on the chest is the candlestick you mention. It is actually an Asian figurine. Or did you mean to use one of the glass candlesticks?

BTW- our front door exterior is painted red, if that makes a difference.

I finally realized the red piece was an Asian figurine and thought I corrected all the references to red candlestick - guess I missed at least one that you caught. LOL! In the picture your door looks like dark stained wood on the inside - since it is red on the outside, even better to have a red rug in the entry area as it carries your color right in with you. You might not want it to be solid red- just depending on what you have already or on what you find.

It looks as if you have a fair bit of furniture to play with should you think the current cabinet area is too empty if that moves to the right ...I'm not sure it would be too empty, but you could try something small like a colorful footstool or a potted plant - some sort of upright "tree". Perhaps a floor lamp?

Maybe an upholstered bench, a bold geometrical print that will complement your color scheme. A nice arrangement of fresh flowers works too.

It's an oriental chest of drawers and a potted orchid (real or artificial) and oriental table lamp will look good on it. Here are some examples (cheap and pricey)

I like where your chest is now as it makes for a pretty vista coming down the hall. So I think you are going to need a long bench upholstered to the floor in a fabulous Chinoiserie fabric that makes a bold statment. Also a rug would be great along with it. Another idea would be an oriental bamboo hall tree that has a lot of negative space so that you can easily get to security pad and switch. Love the oriental things you already have!

Photos to the right as you walk into my home. We've made that an informal dining room.
Third photo is looking straight into the family room.

These photos are to the left of the entry hall and serves as our formal dining room.

Hope this helps give a better view of my needs (and lack of style design).

I like the chest and mirror there too, as coming down the hall it gives me a nice feeling.
Do you mean the bench upholstery should reach the floor? How large a rug. Love the bamboo hall tree suggestion, especially as we're planning on incorporating some bamboo in our front landscape near our very large Zen like water fountain that sits in front of our formal dining window.

I have toyed with the thought of a real orchid on that chest (don't like artificial), but I'm lacking a green thumb. I do have a black long thin lamp with an Asian type black shade that I've considered spray painting. Just don't know what color...

Yes I would like a bench that has a skirt all the way to the floor so it does not add another set of legs( more wood) to the space and gives some softness. I love all your chinoiserie items but we need to soften things up with rugs and fabrics. I would love to come and design some great drapes for you for the dining room.

As I keep looking at this area, I realize there is a LOT of wood going on. I removed the small rug and replaced it with the larger one that was in the informal dining room. What a difference already! It did lighten and soften the entry. All of our windows are covered with wood Plantation shutters in white. We like them without drapes. I'm going for a "serenity" look and feel, but as I go over my photos I placed here, there's a lot of stuff in here! Lol...

Since you want to keep the shutters i would do just stationary panels at the two ends to soften the room and add serenity as well.

You have gorgeous furniture throughout! I sympathize with the lack of green thumbs (join the club) Can you attach a visual of the tall thin lamp on chest pls?

Nice spaces and furniture. I'd remove all the undersized rugs or replace them with some that are substantial enough to make a statement. If you still have the paint for your rooms, please paint the white vents and light
switches/outlets. A good primer will prep them to hold the paint and they'll fade away. I'm not a fan of placing large furniture "kitty-cornered" and would prefer the china against the dark high wall and the table perpendicular to it. You might find installing a chandelier to be a worthwhile addition to that space.

Here's an interesting Asian light for you. Looks like it may have your wall color as a background.

Just discovered that Daughter #2 has "borrowed" my lamp. So, there goes that idea for now...
