Do Adeniums heal on their own?

Aloha Everyone!

I have a couple of seedlings like this. They appear to have rot, but are actually firm. Is it possible for the seedlings to heal themselves? What do you suggest I do, if anything? I have added more perlite to the coco coir mix I had it in to help increase drainage. These photos are of the same seedling (one side and then the other).

There can be quite a difference between whether it is actually rot or heat scald. Most times heat scald will happen at the soil line, especially if you have grit or other material covering the soil.

This does not look like rot to me. It looks to be more a dehydration or damage created by pest. When the caudex is damaged 360 degrees around, it may grow w/o any signs at a later date. Many time it always has visible signs of past damage.

The tissue of this plant does not look to be rotten.

Umm, pretty much everthing alive has the ability to heal, otherwise, injured and dies, right?

If you get a cut, do you die? (well maybe a free bleeder might)...it's the same for plants. It will take a fairly long time to disappear, but it should.

Point taken. It's just that all of the videos I've seen and blogs I've read say to cut the caudex if there is evidence of rot. I've trying to avoid that if possible. Obviously, there was rot. I just hope it has actually healed as it appears to have and there isn't something lurking inside that I can't see. I guess I will just keep a closer eye on these seedlings.

Adenium stems are quite tolerant of cutting and slicing. Just be sure to have clean cutting implements. Wiping blades with rubbing alcohol helps. Here's a project I did that involved plenty of cutting and slicing.
