I direct sowed zinnias and cal. poppy. I used to have good luck winter sowing Zinnias, but this year they did terrible. I think I put them out too early, plus it was a wet spring, and maybe the seeds rotted. Still between what I got thru Winter sowing, and the seeds I direct sowed-- well, it takes patience, but the alternative-- buying everything as a flower - is pretty expensive.
