<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>I want to be able to store items (seasonal boxes, spare wood, etc.) in the rafters of my detached, one-car garage (12'x20') in Tacoma, WA. The framing seems a bit sparse, which may have been standard in 1925, or shortly thereafter, so I'd like to "beef it up" to make it sturdier for my purposes. Any suggestions on what additions I can make? It appears to be all 2x4 framing; 8' walls are covered by plywood, and judging by staple locations, I believe they are framed 24" OC. There are 7 triangle-shaped trusses over the 20' length, all 2x4s. The ridge board is a 1x6. There does not appear to be any metal bracing. I've tried to search relevant codes, but that's a tiresome process. I'm hoping for some guidance here.
