Hello!

We are re-finishing our basement.

House built in 1986.

The front of the house I like to call Cape Cod Colonial and the back is fairly contemporary with lots of floor to ceiling windows (we have a great back yard) - or - serious in the front, party in the back!!!

The main 2 floors in the house have white trim with white painted doors. First floor has 10' ceiling and 2nd floor has 8'.

The basement will have 8' finished ceilings, but we have a lot of bulk heads to hide the HVAC runs - ugh! Which I plan to trim around to look like beams or shiplap....rather than just painted drywall.

So I am wondering if we can stain the trim in the rest of the basement I'm thinking more of a brown gray rather than dark brown and paint doors a dark gray? Or should we just keep all the trim and doors painted white?

There is a fair amount of natural light in the basement as it is a walkout and has large casement opening windows on 2 sides and some awning windows along the front in window wells.

Thinking of keeping the basement wall color pretty light/natural.

And we will be doing an engineered hardwood in a Greige/Brown (lighter than the stained trim color).

We are keeping the flow of the basement pretty open as well and will be putting a bar in which I do want to have stained cabinets (thinking Rustic wood) and walnut bar top.
