The first thing I would do is pick out a headboard/bedframe that will really help drive a style.

Have you poked around houzz and looked at master bedrooms?

I would make a decision on placement of the bed, prior to buying a frame and headboard. Have you tried the bed with the head of the bed on the wall to the left of the windows? It seems to me there would still be plenty of room to access the closet, even with a king bed.

I think this would make the space feel roomier and give you a nice long wall for a dresser.

Thanks CDR Design, for the advice to place before purchasing! We tried the bed with the headboard to the left of the windows, I liked that it was more roomy, too. The four lights from the bathroom vanity shine right into the eyes of whoever is in bed and I didn't know how to resolve that. Any thoughts?

RL Relocation, I've looked at master bedrooms for weeks, hah! We definitely like the low platform-style beds. I'm attaching a couple of our favorites. They are all so nice and symmetrical though :D

Is this too simple of a solution? Keep bathroom door closed and put a nightlight or light on a dimmer, etc to see to get up during the night. Or......put nightlight in the bathroom and is someone uses the bathroom, keep the door close while in there.

The dresser on the wall where the bed is now would look great! Large mirror over it would really open up the room.

I also think placing the bed on the other side of the windows is the solution. Gives both people about the same walking distance from the entrance and to the bathroom while still being able to see the entry from bed. Good feng shui. I need total darkness when sleeping. Our new house had good quality mini blinds through the whole house but I also added blackout drapes in our bedroom. We close our bedroom door at night and leave the bathroom door slightly cracked. we have a auto nightlight in the bathroom that just makes the door visible to use at night. as far as what type of headboard and furniture to get. Start by checking out houzz photos and save everything you like. You should find common colors and styles. Then just try to find something similar. I would look for just a headboard no footboard. They tend to make the room feel smaller. You need 2 night stands to give you each a place to put glasses, a lamp and reading material. Think outside the box, they don't have to match. A desk or dresser can also be used as a nightstand. I like a bench at the end of the bed to place pillows you don't use for sleeping, lay out your clothes for the day or just put on shoes. If you watch tv in bed a tall dresser in the same location the last people had it would be a good place for a tv on top. Easier to see from bed.

Thank you all so much for the detailed advice and ideas! I especially like the thought of having nontraditional, non-matching nightstands, and a bench at the foot of the bed instead of a footboard. This is definitely enough to send me on my way and gave me some great ideas for how to work the bed and nightstands with the corner windows. I will post photos along the way :) CDR design - dimmers and a nightlight is a perfect solution for the bright bathroom lights.

If using different night tables it helps to have them similar in height and color. height should be at or slightly above bed height.

I personally like using small dressers because each person has a place for undergarmets and things without adding more furniture to the room

These other photos are great, Cheryl. I'm excited to explore side table options. We don't have tooo much space on the left side of the bed if we put it on the other wall, because the closet doors fold outward, but I think a small dresser under the corner window would be great! And then I can find something slim of a similar height for the left side.

The bed will also be off-center on the windows as the windows are pretty long. But I think I can balance it out with artwork over the head of the bed.

We recommend trying the bed on the wall to the left of the windows. If that works, then we would look into a headboard. Here are some ideas from various designs of ours:
