How big an area are you thinking of raising?

Is the slab of rock causing a problem? I can think of some problems, but you apparently already know of at least one.

What is your watering regimen?

Is your lawn a common type of bermuda or a hybrid? Common types get seed heads after about a week to 10 days unless mowed. Hybrids don't get seed heads.

Golf courses recontour vast spans of land with soil and top it off with sand. The sand helps them regulate what happens in the root zone. Also, golf courses are out in open pastures and don't have to deal with road and buildings. One of the problems with bringing in topsoil is changing the drainage such that rainfall backs up into a building instead of draining into a ditch or street gutter. Ideally your house sill is at least 4 inches above the soil level and the soil slopes away from the house by 6 inches in the 10 feet around the house. I have that problem with my present house which was not built up high enough in the front. I get water in the garage when it rains. One heavy rain I had 2 inches in the garage. You really don't want to mess with your drainage...unless you can improve it. So I am hesitant to suggest bringing in more topsoil in a neighborhood situation.
