New clematis!!

Not sure what I was thinking as I haven't even figured out where the three new starts I got last year are going in my much too tiny garden but I coudn't resist the tiny little pot of My Angel I found at Walmart yesterday when I stopped to pick up pet food. Of course I had to enter through the garden department area......just to see what might be in.......it is the entry closest to the pet department afterall :-)

Since I have so little sunny areas left that still have room to plant anything, the notion that this blooms well in shade was the clincher!! And I love that color combo.

I love that picture. I have half a dozen Clematis in my pot ghetto still from two years ago when I went to Silver Star Vinery that I haven't planted yet....Better stay away from Walmart

That’s lovely, I’ve never seen it before and agree that a shade bloomer is great! It would have come home with me. I will have to research this one.

I was rather surprised to find it at Walmart as well :-) Not my first choice of a place to shop for plants but I always check, as you never know what you might find!!

My three little starts last year also came from Walmart. They bring them in in 4" pots from a local wholesale clematis speciality nursery but the vast majority are your basic pruning group 2 LFH's......not much to get excited about. My latest find was still on the grower's rack wrapped in plastic and sitting outside the garden center.....obviously just very recently delivered to the store. It was only luck that I found it as it was on the very top shelf, almost out of reach, but right on the edge. I noticed the foliage first....not your typical clem foliage....and then saw the tag and snagged it! If I had waited until they were unloaded and displayed, I'm sure it would have been snatched up quickly!! I doubt there were more than just a couple of these in that mix.

Sherry, the cultivar name is actually 'Engelina', after the breeder's wife. My Angel is a trade name. It is a deliberate hybrid of C. orientalis and C. intricata. I tend to favor the small flowered species clems or species hybrids over the LFH's. What you may lack in flower size is made up for with heavy blooming and typically a more distinctive appearance.

that is gorgeous !!.. gardengal, Lily.. i got inspired from u and got Pink Fantasy and its in the ground already. I planted it deep..I am So Excited.. I need suggestions from you experts :)

warningMy angel is a lovely and very floriferous clematis, but it grows extremely fast and it pops up everywhere. If I don't pull up dozens of shoots each spring, it would completely smother my golden elder. So be careful where you plant it.
