It is a tropical hibiscus so it cannot stand any freezing temps or temps much below 60F. Temporarily bring them inside if you hear of such cold temps. Water them when the top of the soil feeds dry or almost dry. Leaf "damage" from when they were being mistreated may stay until those leaves are shed so ignore problems with old leaves. Make sure that the pot you are using has drainage holes (I recently corresponded with someone whose pot did not have any holes so that is why mentioned this). They like their sun so a full sun (more than 6 hours of sun) location would be best although that may require monitoring the soil for moisture loss due to the Sun and due to winds.

Do not worry much about pruning. It is not something you want to add to your annual list of chores and, unless you have some dead wood after winter, a spot is overgrowing or you want to promote sunlight into specific areas of the plant, I would not prune.
