Easiest seems to be to overwinter cuttings inside (imo). It's possible seeds will sprout in spring, but to be sure, collect and start indoors (again imo).

I think maybe what the person meant was that you would have better luck with collecting the seeds and sowing them yourself compared with letting the milkweeds self sow and ending up with the plants you get. I'm in zone 6a so I'm lucky if I get 2 or 3 vollunteer plants from the milkweeds that went to seed outdoors. I start them inside under lights now. They flower a lot earlier when I do that. Being in 7b, you should get self sown vollunteers that flower.

Cool thx im going to try to grow some in my landscape and some in pots. Im also going to try to mix in some natives around the yard if i can find them locally

I am in Zone 7A NJ. I originally bought ONE tropical milkweed plant and it has absolutely NO PROBLEM, self-seeding to the point of weediness in Zone 7! Every year, they seem to expand their range in the yard. Mind you, I still like them! My supposedly hardy NATIVE (Swamp milkweed) was not very robust and then just died.

You can always try some of the other native New Jersey milkweeds like A. tuberosa, amplexicaulis, syriaca, lanceolata, quadrifolia, viridiflora, exaltata, purpurescens, rubra, variegata and verticillata.
