So, we know the height of the chandelier and the length of the chain. We know the range of the length of the wire and the height on the ceiling. So your chandelier will be anywhere from 3 feet off the floor to 6 feet off the floor if they use the maximum available. Or they could hang it 14 feet off the floor if they chose to.

What do you expect from us, given the vagaries of the measurements you supplied?

My math tells me that you should turn off the computer and get over there first thing in the morning.

Thank you Flo. You always understand the impossible & find solutions. I did ask the electrician the ceiling height and he shrugged. I am currently living 40 minutes from the house and am an hour from work. I did tell him to tackle it last so I could leave work early. New builds are so frustrating. The light is at the center of the room. Fingers crossed we close in 2 weeks. Oh how I wish you lived in my state! I hope you had a great time at the play tonight.

Can you post a picture of the chandelier? Remember, you can put a temporary fixture in for occupancy permit and put right one in later. Biggest issue will be getting high enough scaffolding or ladders to hang it. But I have managed super sized chandeliers in 30’ ceilings! It is a bit nerve wracking for sure. Good luck. I will find a photo. He told my husband he placed it at that height to clear the TV so he watch TV in kitchen. I told him yesterday, I do not watch TV in my kitchen or dining room. I pointed out that he put the power plug in the fireplace too high and did not move it down where I had marked. I have 2 feet of chain left over from fixture. when asked why, he said the light is restricted by the wires. They cut them going to do my best to get out to the house early afternoon. You have been a great help.

Ok great. That is such a pile of crap. Sorry, boy I don’t like this guy at all. It is not his job to decide that is just an excuse to take the easiest route. Don’t let him do this wrong. Way too high. Pretty, but you should have ordered longer wire and chain. Plus, with finish being light, it disappears. 19', yikes. Yes, you need a larger fixture for this height ceiling. So now what???

Looking more closely, the size might be OK, but the light would look so much better hanging about Midway at line with windows. What window treatments are you planning? That is going to impact your room as well.

The light is 8 feet from the floor. I do think I will live with the fixture for now and replace it in a couple of years . Something grande. The color is winter gold. I have no idea what to do with the windows. Sheers? Wow I do not have a single photo of the window trimmed out. Mmmmm drama in the bedroom..I kinda like that idea.

Yep. I agree. But it would be better 12-18” lower. This type window in a bedroom is tricky because if you want dark room in morning fir sleeping, you need blackout drapery from top of trim at top of windows. It looks like you will need 106” long drapery but you will need to measure. I have seen a set of panels done for this type stacked window with portion of panel above the break in the two windows in an open weave fabric then the rest down to floor in pretty fabric. But it was in dining room. So depends on your needs. I will see if I can find a photo of that approach. It would look good for sure. Bbl

No you are right on point. Window treatments last. Use temporary ones until you get everything set in the room. You won’t have regrets then.

I may hunt for 8x10 or 9x12 rug for the great room. Sofa is 96"long and 41" deep. The hubs loves it. Not sure how much floor should show. All the other furnishing are headed upstairs. Off I go for a classic choice .

Pretty rug, but colors might not work. I also am not a fan of a two height rug. All that light high design will pick up all the soil. Especially in high traffic areas. What is the material? Is it wool?

As to a rug, what is the size of your room. That is a very long sofa, so if your room is sufficient, you would need a rug that is 8x11 so the rug sits under the front half of sofa and extends out from the sofa sufficient for a end table. There are a couple ways to size a rug.

The bottom left is preferable if you have enough room, second is the middle right. I never do the upper left. Just looks like you couldn't afford the right size.

I is always wise to select main furniture pieces then rug. Loads of rug possibilities but sofas harder to find size and color etc. Do you plan on a TV in this room? This is large room so it will take some careful planning to get good end result. The entry presents unique challenges for a good design. I need more details to propose some ideas. How long is wall to left of entry? How wide is each window bank? How wide is fireplace? Is “entry main entry? Lines of sight are going to be important to getting great overall look.

You really need a good designer to help you with all these decisions so they are cohesive in the end. Don’t buy items until you have a master plan for each room.
