Yes, it is a very cheerful sight out with the snowdrops. I was also given a green clump many years ago. I don't think it does well from dry corms, which is a shame because it really is wonderful.

While it is true winter aconite prefers to be transplanted 'in the green' I have had luck with fall planting by soaking the little black lumps in water overnight and then promptly planting the next day. Not a 100% survival but close to 80% which is pretty good.

I started them on my lawn with the seed from a friend's garden.with seed from about 4 flower heads, simply cast it into the area I wanted them in. I now have them many places in the lot and they have seeded themselves to spread into a lovely show each Spring. No flowers the first year but a lovely display now ower a wide sweep of area.

I really find it better to use a knowledgeable bulb specialist (like Odyssey Bulb) that won't dehydrate them. Or shared by a gardening friend, of course ;)

They have a reputation of being invasive in the NE, but they almost sulk here..so I doubt I have any issue.

Felistar, I had the same sucess with soaking as well. It seems our experience is not the norm. We might have had especially fresh material to begin with.

UPDATE June 7: It looks good enough even as it is soon to go dormant.
