A better idea would be a tongue and groove ceiling in BOTH spaces, and then an interesting fixture over the table to accent dining.

Either way........nobody can help minus photos of your space. Kitchen and dining. All the trades involved need to be local to you, and we've no CLUE where you are.

Forget the fancy ceiling just get a fabulous chandeleir

I recommend installing ceiling recessed lighting. It will look beautiful.

The dining space is lacking definition and a chandelier will definitely help. We've already purchased the chandelier. I really wanted to add more accent lighting by using a tray ceiling/coffered ceiling with recessed lights, But maybe it’s not necessary...I don’t know.

Get some great lamp light. Ignore the ceiling completely. You lack decoration.

Forget the ceiling detail.........move the vertical abstract to over the sideboard. add some g narrow lamps.

Put something on the table. Two large three small.......uneven number : )

add art.......... on the long wall .

Jan, i realized after reading your response my photo wasn’t inclusive of the artwork on the wall. This is my first time seeking help via online posting so please excuse my lack of information.

However, I am interested in your suggestion for lamp lighting or more decoration. Adding an uneven number of something in the center of the table is a great idea. Thank you. But, where would the lamp(s) go? On the Buffet?

Lamps on the buffet, yes, or abandon those for just the stronger art and add chandelier. Pendants over island make more sense,. And also provide more light where it is NEEDED. I'd store the extra dining chairs.......elsewhere as well. Too crowded.

I'd recommend moving the buffet somewhat to the left (perhaps centering it on the wall) and moving the table to the left and forward. Given the large amount of space, I see no reason to push it into the corner, restricting diners' ability to easily move around the table.

You have a lovely home. I too have a coastal home and enjoy working on ceilings more than anything else. Is your ceiling 8’ or 9’? In my master bedroom I did a southern yellow pine ceiling with a blue/gray stain and covered with white beams. That took a long time to do and it was back/neck breaking. In the kitchen I used pine bead board with a white pickling stain. Dining room was African mahogany. With the exception of the kitchen my ceilings are 9 1/2 ft.

Hi Jalarse, sorry for the late response. You're home/ceilings are amazing. Thank you for sharing. We have 8.2" ceiling in the dining room and kitchen area. We would love to do the entire area but with the limited height I don't think it would work. I was tossing around the idea of just doing something above the dining room table. The main purpose would be to add an 'accent' light to use around the chandelier. I'm having a very difficult time putting my idea into a workable plan (I'm a numbers person not design). Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks again for sharing your photos.

You're at over think on that dining area. Hang the light, art, etc : )

Or look for a decorative painter in your area, I mean a great painter capable of literally painting you "through a wall or ceiling" .........and create the 3 dimensional look with paint.

Honestly...........I'd just realize it's too low and focus eyes of all a bit lower.Ceiling details are part of initial design plans.........not afterthoughts and tack ons.
