How does this one compare to Heritage?

They look similar to me, but maybe most Austin's do.

jc_7a, i don't have Heritage so no idea sorry

jc_ Heritage is paler, more blowsy and doesn't have the quartered center. The flowers do not last long. It was my first Austin and is the oldest continuous rose in my garden and came through this polar vortex winter with absolutely NO dieback. I also moved it at least onceand it never missed a beat. I'm trying to find a closeup pic but can only find the whole bush shot right now.

I actually like that the blooms drop so cleanly (only because it has a reputation of always being in bloom).

Ill have a hedge of 5 as a backdrop for all the other roses I got this year.

Was deciding between that and Ancient Mariner and went for the most affordable one.

Do you have nematodes in Tallahassee? Is this on fortuniana root stock.... and if so, where did you get it.... Thanks

Here's an update on the Ancient Mariner. I LOVE this rose, smells amazing, flowers lasting 3-4 days. Great color, very healthy so far. This over the The Alnwick Rose anytime.

I added The Ancient Mariner and The Alnwick to my collection this spring. The former are getting ready to bloom and the latter are just leafing our as I planted them at different time. So far The Alnwick has an upright vase shape bush. I cannot wait to comparing their blooms and growth habit but I think what you said make sense - The Ancient Mariner probably have bigger, doubler and more perfect blooms. Maybe thicker petals too?
