Lamp on buffet table

in my dining this buffet table is 72 inches long. I just got this lamp from lampsplus today. Isn’t it looking kind of weird ? Is it too tall for the buffet table? Maybe the shade is huge?

Or should I get a rectangular lamp shade ?

In pictures things look so good, like I have seen hundreds of pics of buffet table with lamps and everyone of them looks good ! Just when I try to do myself it doesn’t !!

Here are the dimensions of the lamp.

Please take another picture straight on from the other side of the table.

I like the lamp but I see gold walls, pink chairs & floor that looks beige/gray, how does the teal relate?

I think it looks good dimension wise- I think maybe it is too far to the end of the buffet. I would move it like maybe 6 inches or so to the center and play around with it.

I think it's your colours that are throwing you off. You've got a lot going on with all the different colours. I really like your lamp but I think you should have two, one on either end of your sideboard with a great print or mirror in between. Perhaps you can use your lamp(s) as inspiration for the rest of the room? Maybe greige walls to go with your floor and table, and an area rug with pinks/blues/creams to tie in the chairs and lamp(s)? Don't feel overwhelmed by this room, it's got the beginnings of great style!!

It looks too small and too short. Also choose a lamp without "color". A lamp in a dining room should not draw your eye simply by color. Something taller and a thinner base, and the shade should not flare out... think straighter lines.

I love the lines of your buffet. I think too that it could use two lamps placed not quite so close to the ends. Your lamp isn't too tall, it could even be a bit taller and with a more interesting shade. That's coming from a lamp addict, love looking at and shopping for lamps ;0) Is there blue someplace else in the room that you are trying to pick up on?

That lamp color plays nicely against your wall. I like celerygirl's mockup and might even think about adding a matching lamp to the other side.

Thanks everyone. I actually bought this lamp for my girls bedroom but wanted to see how it looked dimension or style wise on the buffet table. I do have two, but planning on returning.

So it should be neutral in color? And thinner. Maybe that will look more appealing.

Yes, I think maybe they r too fat for the buffet, I do like them in the picture celerygirl did. I m just starting to play around with how to dress up the buffet.

How do you do mockups? Is there an app for that?

Here it is. Even here it’s looking odd.

I don't like the lamp. At all. I would choose something taller and leaner. Perhaps a metallic if you are thinking neutral... helps dress up the room but doesn't necessarily make you notice the lamp. Choose a white or very light ivory shade so that it doesn't distort the color of the light of the bulb.

Part of what may be throwing you off is that there's nothing else on the buffet so the lamp looks lonely. Do you like the render that user above posted? I think that looks fantastic, and if you add more blue touches around the room it could come together nicely.

I also love the colour against your gold walls. What a lovely combo. (If ever you need to reupholster your dining chairs, consider that colour.)

It looks more like a bedroom lamp to me.

I like the base but not the shade against the dining room wall color.

Very nice lamp! Here I found today this pic. It reminds me your lamp.

I like the lamp in the bedroom but right now it is having the same problem - the color has nothing to do with the bedding. For bedroom, I don't mind a single lamp in a smaller room on a table/chest between twin beds. For a larger room and larger bed, I like matching lamps on either side.

It needs a shorter harp and a white shade if you keep it. Here's Fred's chart for table and lamp height - note how table should reach mattress height.
