We are buying a small ranch house that has dark brown stained T1-11 siding. The siding is in pretty good shape. I am pretty sure it is the plywood version. Really - I just do not care for such a dark house color. Can we apply a lighter solid stain to lighten it? I am not sure if the current stain is oil based or not. How can I tell what kind of stain is on it? Also - the house is by a huge lake and gets arctic temperatures in winter and high wind. Please advise - Thanks!
