The wearability of Crypton fabrics is going to vary since they can be made from different fibers and vary in weave. Sunbrella is all made from acrylic, which isn't the softest fabric option. One main difference is that the moisture-resistance of Sunbrella is from a treatment (like scotch-guard) that eventually wears off whereas the Crypton treatment stays put. You should also consider Inside Out fabrics - these are a softer alternative to Sunbrella with a lifetime moisture resistance. They also feel a lot better.

We have a linen weave crypton and I thought it was done for when my toddler smeared on a full tube of dark lipstick on it. I was told when trying to order a replacement cushion to at least try cleaning it. It cleaned off completely! I have also cleaned off countless coffee spills from my husband and years later it looks great.

i’ve read that Sunbrella prevents sun fading best , while Crypton is best for staIns. I’m having our family room sofa done in a Kravet Crypton. I tested a scrap of it with garden dirt and grass ( dogs) , and red wine. (Wow, Esther! Lipstick is impressive! ). All washed off perfectly with dish detergent. Never heard of Inside Out. Will look for it . Softer would be nice in living room.

This is so helpful, thank you all. I just looked at and felt my samples more closely, and the Sunbrella is indeed not as soft as the ones that are Crypton and Inside Out. Which is unfortunate, because the color I was leaning toward for my t.v. room is Sunbrella, but I'd much rather know now and reselect than be disappointed that it's not soft.

I read a suggestion of testing fabric softness on your face or upper arm. Our hands don't respond as much as our cheeks or arms! I am also in the process of choosing a crypton fabric. I'd LOVE a cream or off white (years and years of chocolate colored sofas) but I'm scared! We have a bird who poops every 20 minutes, an old dog and we are generally messy humans. :D I have some samples on the way and plan on doing some dirty work just to make sure a lighter sofa won't make me crazy long term! If anyone has feedback on lighter colored crypton fabric I'd love it!
