I have about 10 feed sacks of henhouse clean out I got from my folks. I initially intended to use it to get some Japanese tomato rings going, but since it’s late in the year, I may just put a bunch in a row between my rows of tomatoes and cover it with wood chips as I mulch the entire bed. I’ve had good results in the past with no indication of the hot manure causing problems.

I'm certainly not an authority on the use of chicken manure, but I would tend to stay away from using it on tomatoes. My gut feeling is that it's too strong. I'd probably spread it on the garden this fall, after frost, or even better, use it to heat up some brown material in a compost pile.

That's just me. I'm the one who almost never fertilizes once I'm planting.

Too hot to be close to the tomatoes, but ok buried deep, or late in the season, or in your compost pile. In fact, great in the compost pile, gets it all moving.

Somewhere I read the rule of thumb is chicken manure should be aged 9 months before using it on anything you eat. Or put it on soil and wait 9 months to plant. Not because it's hot, but because it can carry salmonella. That said, I have had chickens in the garden making fresh deposits and I'm still a live.

I have used it before to make chicken manure tea with and watered my tomatoes with it. I did not use a scientific method or anything. Just filled a 5 gallon bucket with water and put roughly 4 cups of manure in it, let it dissolve stirred it and watered with it. I used it on all my flowers also. I didn’t have anything burn. I have also done the same with cow manure
