I just ordered Sheoga Clear Natural Hickory 4.25" wide for my kitchen yesterday. https://www.sheogaflooring.com/flooring/prefinished-flooring/hickory-2/

I got it from my local flooring shop and the price was comparable to HD, Lowes and Lumber liquidators.

@GeorgiaPeach 1970. I like both of them, what color are you cabinets? I like the Sagebrush but it only comes in 3.25, I really want 4 in or multi width so I am still on the hunt. Where are you ordering from?

cabinets are a reddish oak I guess.

The Prestige mountain harbor hickory is a closer match. I've found it for $3.15 from truehardwoods.com. The Mannington price is from my local floor dealer.

I believe truehardwoods.com have Manningtin mountain view hickory in fawn for around $5.49. I feel that's a brand you can trust . Also,that online seller gets rave reviews.
Dustin,an associate,said they're a certified dealer and any problems will be backed by the manufacturer's warranty.

Who is doing the installation of this hardwood?

jamie, can they send you a sample? or is there another local place you can see a sample plank? I ordered my acacia flooring from MN sight unseen (in person) but was very happy once it got here.

We have a local guy who's done work for us before. He's a professional who's installed for local businesses for years. We trust his expertise.
I thought today I would go with Vicksburg. Found it for $5.15 at DWF. Actually called Shaw industries and they confirmed DWF(TrueHardwoods.com) was a certified dealer. All are around Dalton GA area.
But then I read on Houzz where Shaw flooring gets terrible reviews.
Ugh,I'm so confused.

@GeorgiaPeach 1970 I have the same concern that is why I will probably go with a local store so I can have some personal rep should there be any issues. I asked my rep about it and they said they haven’t had issues and when they did it was with a builder grade product which isn’t what I am looking at. I am having a local guy install as well and he hasn’t seen any issues either.

Look for flooring products with good reviews. There are plenty of the out there :-)

Strongly recommend going with a local store. We have an Anderson "scraped" solid wood flooring that we love. We ordered more for an addition and the flooring provided was not a match and showed machine burns, router marks, and inconsistent staining (all very manufactured looking). Our local store came and looked at the flooring and agreed it was unacceptable, a rep from Anderson was sent out and agreed it was unacceptable, and Anderson still rejected the claim. The local store is making the situation right for us. If we relied on Anderson or a different flooring place in town, we would be stuck with really bad flooring. So, definitely get from a good local flooring store. The customer service matters. I have a post on here about the flooring which I hope to update when the situation is fully resolved.

Here is my Homerwood Hickory Natural in 4 inch solid. The saddle color posted earlier would tone this down & is very pretty. Many other great colors also. We paid $7/sq. ft. at a local wood floor dealer & another $2-3 for the install. This was in 2012, so YMMV.

Here's another thing I've been enlightened on; board lengths. As if we need another thing to "muddy the water"!
Joel @Oak and Broad commented about "shorts". and how they'll make a floor seem unattractive.
I never knew! I checked on Mannington Mountain hickory & it says varying lengths to 45". Shaw Vicksburg states up to 45",avg 18". The sales woman at my store says a knowledgeable installer will know how to lay them accordingly.
Solid hardwood is not usually used around here due to humidity and it's not in my budget anyway. Choosing from a local mill for long lengths isn't an option for me.
Mannington is a Guatemala product.
Shaw is U.S.
Btw..Shaw Vicksburg is on sale. She quoted me $6.99sq ft. My guy charges $2 to install.

@ GeorgiaPeach 1970 No bother this is maddening! Yes the lengths matter I am finding. I found another one that was 24" to 47", sounds very choppy. Finding room scenes online is helping me. Attached is World Traveler in color Trail by Shaw. Awaiting a quote, Shaw has a sale right now with my local retailer. Which way are you leaning? Hubby likes solid

We have hickory floor, 2 kids, a dog & lots of gatherings at our house. We’ve had it for over 2 years & you would have a very hard time finding a scratch on it. I love it!!

Jamie, I like that one. Will those beveled edges bother you though? I'm just thinking of those joints that will get grungy. see how mark-rachel posted theirs w/tighter joints? might be easier to keep clean

Beth H. : I like the beveled edges personally. I know I will lose it someday when and if I refinish, but hey I'll be old and grey by that time and won't care LOL. I only use a irobot vacuum daily now, so it can work on the dirt in the bevels.

mark_rachel What color is yours. I'm glad to hear Hickory holds up to an active household. Is yours solid?

Mine is a natural stain. It's engineered. I didn't want solid because the wide range of humidity that we experience. We needed something that would change with the seasons easier than a solid. Our has a nice texture to it & a matte finish. It doesn't show ANYTHING!

As I mentioned before I just ordered the Sheoga Hickory. I did so for the following reasons: American harvested and made in Ohio, less than 5% avg. waste factor, longer random lengths 12" to 96", very small micro bevel, 3/4" thickness and available through local store. I researched a lot before I made my decision and I think it was worth it. For the 4.25" wide clear hickory, I paid $7 sq. ft. My contractor who has done the hardwood install on the rest of the house will install it.

mark_rachel Im not opposed to enginnerred as long as 1/2 thick and will hold up. Thinking solid only bc my engineered maple have dings and scratches and cant be refinished.

moosemac Who is your local store and did they have samples in the store? I'm from Indiana. I want some stain, not clear. I've got 7 samples in my house now, trying to find the right fit. What is your pricing / sq ft to install. My bid was $3.20

Jaime, My local store is Seacoast Flooring Supply, South Hampton, NH. Yes they had samples in the store which made it easy to pick. Super helpful folks. The contractor is my cousin so I get a huge break, $2. LOL We are a close family.

I'm chiming in again! Just got a quote from an authorized dealer 60 miles away.
They can sell me Shaw Vicksburg for $4.75/sq. ft. ,carry out. Our good friend,a professional installer,will install for $2/sq.ft.
Now here's the thing: the salesperson said if there's ever a problem they can file a claim for us but because they didn't install we'd probably be on our own negotiating with Shaw. I have every confidence in my installer.
Hmmm...what to do!?

After visiting with Allen over the phone I have no qualms about placing my order.
I got the lowest quote from him.
As soon as my floor guy gets our total measurements I'm placing my order.

I did this very same thing with mine. My best friend is a professional installer, so I did a cash & carry deal at a local flooring store then had my friend install. I knew he would let me know of any defects that needed to be addressed with the product, but as far as the install I had 100% confidence in him & if anything ever comes up he will make it right.

GeorgiaPeach 1970 Wow I called them and they are $3 a sq ft cheaper on the solid product I want, plus I can pick up an hour away and save $500! Thank you for the referral! When will your delivery be made? I don’t need to order mine for a few weeks. I’m going to check reviews and make my final decision.

Wow,those are gorgeous! Congratulations on your dream floor.
We hit a huge bump in the road .
Our Shaw Vicksburg was in the house ready to be installed.
As the old floor (laminate)was being taken up we found moisture along the floor plates in our concrete slab.
Obviously we couldn't install hardwood.
Fortunately we bought from a local retailer and they could accept returns. Of course we pay a restocking fee and another freight charge on new floors.
Now,we are installing lvp.
Not what I had dreamed of but at least no worries. It is pretty realistic looking.

So sorry to hear this! The vinyl plank is so nice though think about the cleaning aspect. I am constantly sweeping these floors. I love the LVT, im glad you bought local and was able to return, what a nightmare that would have been should you have bought online. Better safe than sorry, I hope you love your new product! I'm really pleased with the look of the flooring.
I don't even want to think how much junk collects in carpet. Yuck!
I do realize the planks will require a bit more vacuuming but I won't complain.
