I think you are in the right track. The glass blue vase looks high for the coffee table. It may look better on the side board in the dining area

I actually liked the 2 vases on the table, but I can see the point about it maybe being a bit too high. What about keeping just one of them (the shorter one)? Do you have other vases or bottles in other rooms? Pretty coffee table books? I like where you’re going and think you’re wise to shop in other rooms. Keep it up and keep posting the pics.

Is your fireplace gold trim permanent or can you remove it easily? Mine was attached with magnets and I removed it, instantly giving my fireplace a new look without the gold.

I think your home is lovely. My suggestion would be to lower the artwork over your fireplace.

I do think the fireplace would look good with the black removed as well. Not sure the size is right but the art that is to the left of the mirror may look good over the fireplace. I really like it and love the colors in your room.

I agree about trying dining room art over fireplace although it may not be wide enough but regardless which one, it needs to be much lower than the current yellow art is.

Thank you for the fireplace suggestions! The gold is not removable but I have seen specific spray paint for fire places I was thinking to try out. The blue artwork is too narrow for the fireplace unfortunately. Should it be moved somewhere else?

Just a thought, I agree that the blue painting doesn’t look quite right above the fireplace ( it looks familiar, I’ve seen it before, where did you get it ? ) ... I think I might try a horizontal piece of art hung over the fireplace, not too high, you could tape butcher paper first to see of it would work, or perhaps a smaller square piece of art would work. How wide is the fireplace wall?

I find that you have too many pillows on the couch. If I was visiting, where do the pillows go if I want to sit on it? on the floor? on my lap?

applesharon suggested moving the mirror and replacing it with the blue art. I think its worth a try. You have lots of white empty space behind the sofa near the staircase, it may be better in that area.

No, it doesn't look too bare. The eye needs someplace to rest. You have the interesting carved mirror, blue glass and other pieces on the credenza. The blue pictures is good near the chair. You can try a blue pillow instead of the taupe one but it is fine as is. The coffee table arrangement looks good to me now, although the crystal vase can go if you are not putting fresh flowers in it.

I like the mirror better now the art has been moved. Maybe the art needs to be raised a little. Agree don't think you need the crystal vase on the coffee table. The pillows are fine, but eventually you may spot some that would work better. I think you need something over need the lonely brown chair, and i don't think you need the pillow on it.

Yes, try a small round table on the left side of the chair.

Love the tray with the orchid on the coffee table. I'm really not fond of the rope thing. I think it looks way too casual for the room. My suggestion is place something else in the tray with orchid and place a few bigger books next to tray on table.
The original bowl looks better on dining table, but I think something bigger and prettier should be in the bowl. Try bigger maybe silver balls.
Mirror looks better without the art next to it and art looks better in the new spot.
Agree that you need new art over fireplace, the yellow just doesn't go with the room.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback, Ive had a tough time putting elements together in this room so I’m very open to all suggestions! My house (unfortunately) is an early 90s build in Florida with lots of weird angles and this large room isn’t really something I’m used to. That said I do want to keep a casual feel as we do use this room to escape when kids have friends over or to relax when we don’t want to watch tv-but it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the house so I’d like it to look pulled together and give a nice impression.

Love the colors in the room. Have you tried just one focal point centered on the coffee table - either the basket with the rope or the tray with the orchid, whichever one you like best? I've often read that odd numbers work better than even, and when I look at your photos my eyes are trying to line up the two pieces with the two sections of your love seat. Perhaps a single piece would lead the eye forward....

Just a thought. What about moving the chair to the other side of the blue picture, adding a table like Lorrie suggested and a blue pillow?

It is nice to have space on a coffee table for mugs of tea, glasses of wine, and plates of appetizers. Or cake! And piles of books. I prefer the coffee table to be functional rather than to be covered with purely decorative items that might easily be knocked off. I would suggest a simple stack of nice looking and interesting books, when you are not bringing out the wine and food. I love flowers, but would put them on the dining room table rather than a low coffee table, and keep them in a low arrangement, so they don't block the view of diners.

Sorry, but if it were me, I would leave the table bare rather than the choices you have shown. Do you have done other objects that you love that you could use on the table? What you have shown doesn't work for me.

Have you considered painting your server/buffet and changing the hardware? I think a nice blue would be cool. Like a blue from your artwork.

I know you're considering replacing the fireplace art, but there is some red in the chair that pulls it across the room and a tiny bit of gold in the blue painting. Do you have any burgundy or gold pillows or accessories you could try to mix in? It's very calm and serene right now which is kind of what you said you were going for, but I feel like it could use a little kick of something to keep it interesting. Something darker, or bolder like Robby suggested. I'm glad you removed the tan sofa pillows.

Yes. The styling of the chair and color are off with the rest of your room. It would work well in a bedroom. See if you can use it that way. Also either cut that white tag off or tape it to bottom of chair so you don’t see it.
