Dont plant it under evergreens, dappled shade would be fine. They come up before the trees leaf out then go dormant during summer. Pick a loamy soil, not clay.

I think any of those conditions would be fine......they are not that picky. I like these a lot, and have a tendency to leave any jack seedlings that pop up in my flower beds. Because of that, I now have them here and there throughout my little NJ property. Lots of variation in this native too. I like the color of yours.

We have them growing in all parts of the garden leaving them grow wherever they come up. Those in mostly shade have deeper, richer color, and those in lots of sun are bleached nearly lime green. If I accidentally dig one up, I move it to a shady spot.
