Amber, keep in mind almost every remodeling job we did and there was jack and jill bathroom, people wanted to eliminate that for one and only reason, people who use the bathroom must constantly remember to lock and to unlock the other door.

I would think about that before you plan your remodeling and kids will start complaining.

I 10x15 is enough room to do two nice bathrooms:

I would do something like this

I would do two separate bathrooms, more convenient for the boys and more resale value.

When planning two baths, I would try to put the toilets back to back for plumbing purposes.

No J&J bathroom they are awful and never accomplish what you think they will.. @ small bathrooms are a much better choice.You easily can do 2 bathrooms in that space.If you post a detailed floor plan of both rooms and the bathroom space I am sure there will be good ideas to use.

I was thinking on this since my initial post. Is this the best use of space? Do you just need a bathroom, or could some of this space be used for closets/storage/laundry. I actually love the idea of toilet and shower separate from the sink area. Much like a hotel where you have a sink/vanity outside of the bathroom near the closet or beside the closet and then the business part of the bathroom behind a closed door.

I do have to say that I think society has placed an unneccessary premium on privacy. How much time do you really spend in a bathroom. Does each kid needs their own private bedroom and bathroom?

My parents had 6 kids and we had a "kids" bathroom with 2 snks. We all brushed our teeth and washed our faces morning and evening. The boys took showers in the morning and the girls took baths at night. Somehow we managed without fighting or complaining. It just was. We did have vanities in both bedrooms (boys and girls bedrooms), so hair and makeup were done in our rooms, not the communal bathroom. Yes, we also shared bedrooms, 3 girls in one bedroom, 3 boys in the other. Privacy was not expected and my mother didn't allow us to hang out in the bedrooms. We had a family room and a study. Bedrooms were for sleeping and changing your clothes. The rest of the day we were expected to be a family, work together, play together and socialize together. I'm 57 and talk to my 2 sisters almost every day. My 2 sisters are my best friends, and my brother married my best friend from high school. The 6 kids are thicker than theives. We all live within 5 minutes of each other and drop by each others homes and have dinner together, shop together, bake together. Our kids grew up together and love hanging out with their cousins. I think my mom did something right.

I would prefer a hall bathroom with separate area for tub and toilet. We have a J&J and I don't like it.
