How long will Akadama last if it doesn't freeze?

I have a 8" Sharps Pygmy I put a NORMAL pot, but in bonsai soil (Boon's Mix: 2 akadama - 1 lava -1 pumice). It seems to be doing very well! I will be potting up to a 2-3 gallon container next year or two. My JM's are stored in an attached, unheated garage that gets down to around 35 at the lowest.

I'm thinking of keeping it in the boons mix when I do so.


My question is how many years before a re-pot is necessary if it's not subject to freeze/thaw cycles? Would watering be similar to the 1-1-1 "gritty mix" my other JM's reside in? Is there any reason I should not use the Boons Mix in a regular container?
