Whatever it is, it's stunning. I looked at those other two varieties and it didn't seem to match to me. But that's just my impression. Do you know which grower it came from initially? Sometimes that can be clue to help you find the name.

It was given to me at one of our local swaps, so I don't know grower.

Aww, you may never know ruthz. There are so many varieties that look so similar that without some other clues, mostly it would just be a guess. Although yours is quite special. At one time I found a site where you could specify criteria and it would give results of the names, such as peach standards purple falls. But I can't seem to locate the site now. If I find it, I will come back!

I like that idea, xiangirl! I have two iris in my garden that are No IDs. One of them is called "Ashley's Gold" because it was given to me by an Ashley and the other is "Clint" for my uncle who gave it to me. Neither had their original names. I have been able to identify Clint now, it's Batik. But I still have the label on it that says "Clint". The other one, we will likely never know. We can make some guesses but without provenance, it's only a guess.
