There is never a guarantee that modern hybrid tulips will return reliably.....in many cases that ability has been bred out of them in favor of size or coloration. It is often very hit or miss, with the Darwins tending to do better in that regard than most others. In fact. many gardeners just treat tulips as annuals and replant every year. Or switch to species tulips.
