yours look fairy ringed ... dead in the center ... i would probably dig it up.. remove dead crown.. and replant ...

im not sure in your area.. as to timing of that ... or whether you would mind forgoing bloom to grow a root mass.. for next year ...

in my sand.. it is not all that uncommon.. for the plant .. if not bare rooted ... but left in the potting media.. and stuck into sand.. that the part in the media dies out in a year or 3 ... and if the plant is aggressive enough to grow out into native soil.. continues to grow ...

basically what happens .. is that come july/august ... the sand wicks water out of the peat.. and the center dies of lack of water ... and once peat dries too far.. its hard to rewet it ...

divergence of soill/media .... is one reason to mostly bare root plants.. and plant into native soil ....

You would have to dig it up and check the roots to make sure but I seriously doubt it. Beardless, more fleshy rooted iris like sibes or sanguineum are seldom bothered by borers....they focus more on the big tuberous rhizomes of the bearded group.

In all my years of growing beardless and species iris, I have never encountered any borer issues. Which is why I prefer them over the beardeds.

I will dig it up sometime this week when it stops raining for once. I’m a little relieved to hear it’s unliekly that it’s a Borer. Luckily I don’t have sand so the Peaty mix adjusts well to the heaviesh soil I have. I hope it’s Not Rot... but then again how can a plant That can live in shallow water rot.

Also this iris is the only one that is about to bloom. This early in the season. Maybe that’s indicating some sort of stress
