Hu - The natural life cycle of a bromeliad is, it grows, it flowers, and when the flowers die, it grows pups to reproduce itself.

The quicker the flower spike is removed, the quicker it will start to produce pups. It will produce more pups if the spike is removed early that if you leave it on the plant, because while on the pant the spike is drawing nourishment from the plant which could otherwise be put to use growing pups.

If you give the Mother plant a good dose of fertiliser you will likely increase the number of pups she produces.
