Ernest Markham sproutings.

I know many of you are already enjoying flowers on you Clematis. I'm just glad mine has survived the winter and is coming back near the ground.

Some of the sprouts are coming from very short old wood near the bottom of last years growth. Some are coming from the roots under the ground.

Should I just let sprawl? With all the sprouts growing? Or would it be better to stop some of them and let the old wood ones take over? This will most likely die to or near to the ground each year in my zone.

TIA Bill
