Grohe soap dispenser question

We have a Grohe soap dispenser that stopped pumping the soap (won't draw it up even though the bottle is half full). We contacted Grohe and they sent a replacement part for the top/pump section. Looks identical but same problem. Won't pull up any soap. Has anyone had this experience? Link to the product we have: Grohe Soap Dispenser 28857SD0

I have a Grohe soap dispenser for several years. Are you saying the replacement pump did not work right out of the box?

Yes, it is doing exactly what the original was. It seems to pump in a shallow way and doesn't pull up any soap. I'm wondering if the bottle and undercounter part is broken. It's worked for 12 years and suddenly nothing. I soaked it, scrubbed it, etc.

I wonder if maybe the contact between the pump and the bottle has worn - the threads are no longer there, so the pump can't get purchase to pump. I'd call Grohe again. They are very good at providing free replacement.

12 years is a good amount of time for a soap dispenser.

Yes, I think that will be my next step. Thanks! (Agree 12 years is a good long run on this soap dispenser.)

Hard to know the cause from a distance, but I agree to try a different soap. I use Seventh Generation Dish Liquid, and it is not as thick and gummy as some other dishwashing liquids are, and my soap dispenser works fine.

I will definitely try that. For years I used a Wms Sonoma soap and recently switched to Mrs Meyers. It does appear thicker. Thanks for the idea!

You need to climb under the sink and pull the bottle out. We had a similar problem with a Kraus soap dispenser. It was not the pump but the neck of the bottle had started to separate from the bottle from age. Kraus sent us a new bottle. Problem solved.

    Will definitely check...thanks!

Quick follow up. It appears to be the thickness of the soap. Once we removed it and rinsed the bottle, it worked fine with water. So I am back to the stuff I used for the first 12 years. Thanks all for the great feedback.

    So...what soap is it?

I have been using Williams Sonoma hand soap for the entire life of this dispenser. It always worked fine. A few months ago, I decided to try Mrs. Meyers, mostly because W/S doesn't carry the lavender scent in the stores anymore. It was a bit thicker, but I didn't think anything of it, since it worked fine. Until it didn't. :-(
