Ingrid, you are funny !! Tired ? No, never.... I totally enjoy seeing blooms. I see so many if you having Spring flush and I am dying of envy here BEC I have none. Absolutely zero blooms, the season is gone and it is ridiculously hot. Hot and humid..yuk !!
I can't wait for another growth of buds. So, meantime, I am looking at your garden and others and go....sweet and wow, beautiful and perhaps I should get this maybe that...you know how it goes...hehehe. I totally appreciate your pics :)

I read about the May rainstorm in CA, more rain than normal for this time of year.

La France is just a thin little plant but oh those blooms. I'm thrilled to have La France in bloom in my garden after having lost one to canker. If I had to do it again I would have just cut it down to the ground, but I was spooked because so many roses had canker. Sheila, I hope you know that I want very badly to look at your roses in return. Surely some must be in bloom? Jin, here's hoping that you have some blooming beauties of your own again very soon. You have some really lovely roses now, and I hope they grow like gangbusters. Yes, Krista, we expect a few more days of this lovely rain, so unexpected in the latter part of May. Much better than the golf ball-sized hail and tornadoes that are happening in other parts of the country. That is just so sad and wrong.

@Ingrid - I don't think any of us here ever get tired of seeing roses and gardens! I'm sure all the extra rain has been refreshing you & your garden. I noticed you said you only had one day lily left. Did you lose them to critters or drought?

@Sheila- Your roses look huge and beautiful! Your stucco wall tea garden has grown so much since the last pictures I saw! It must be nice to be in a warmer climate than before & grow such big beauties!

Ingrid, that Le Vesuve shrub is lovely. I always appreciate seeing your garden. I only have small bushes, but I keep cutting them to bring inside. Its one of the joys of growing roses!
Shelia, thanks for posting Monsieur Tillier. I am looking forward to mine growing big. How old is yours? I have only seen the one at Huntington, which is ~7 foot tall shrub, and it’s large trunk indicates it has been there a while. Wondering how long I will have to wait.

Mine is about 4 ft tall at three years old, Stephanie. It is a wonderful rose.

I can’t pick a favorite rose but I can a picture-the stucco wall tea garden. So beautiful!

I've spent the last few hours looking at others' threads and doing a few other things and finally looked at mine. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Sheila, thank you so much! My gosh, your roses are so big and beautiful this year! No way to pick a favorite, so many outstanding ones. Gorgeous, wonderful roses, Mutabilis, Abe Darby, La France (the best I've ever seen), Ducher, Hermosa, Jesse HIldreth, Niles Cochet and all the rest, simply incredible. You can't know how happy it's made me to see your roses. You've obviously also had abundant rains, everything is growing and blooming like gangbusters.

I have a new rose blooming in my garden, Sweet Frances, and it's so very nice. Can you spot the bunny bottom to the left?

My second bush of Bishop's Castle has just now opened its first bloom.

Sheila, thank you! What roses! And iris... Mutabilis looks simply wonderful - a cascade of colour. That fountain must have taken a fair bit of luggage space on your flight back from Italy, but it was worth it.

Thank you so much, everyone. I can say, hand over heart, that Sheila's garden is vastly more interesting to me than mine, with so many more rose varieties and large, dramatic bushes covered with blooms. I would give a lot to live within driving distance of her property. What she has accomplished in a few short years is phenomenal.

I was looking at that barn, Sheila. Is it my imagination or has it deteriorated since last year? I can definitely think of worse places to live than there. I've always admired your surroundings, and what a view I'd have across the street!

I did not notice the barn deteriorating Ingrid. I hope not. I love it. It has a good roof, I think, which is the most important thing in preventing vintage barns from deteriorating. The building site on that property would be up the slope behind the barn I would think. Home building is a big job, I realize. I do know this climate is less challenging than yours.

Building or even moving to somewhere else is so far beyond my capabilities, Sheila, but sometimes it's nice to dream. The Rogue Valley is a beautiful place and very tempting, though.

It's a different garden now with not much blooming, but a few bright spots nevertheless. It's nice to see new growth on roses that have already bloomed and to know that there will be more flowers, although not as abundant as before, and that's all right too. I often appreciate my roses more when there are just a few blooms among the green leaves, which invite me to study them more closely and to marvel at the intricate petal formations and subtle colors.

Potter and Moore's flowers don't feel inclined too open completely in the cool drizzle. Since this picture was taken that period has passed and there is now bright sunshine.

Ingrid and Sheila, I’m just reveling in the beauty of your garden photos. Both of you have a knack for growing roses to compliment the glorious scenery around you, instead of trying to compete with it. You two grow your roses to look like part of the natural/native flora around you, not an easy task. Of course, you need the right property to begin to even try. Both of you have wonderful properties, and have managed to accomplish this look to perfection. Your roses and other plants look like they belong there, instead of looking like they were so carefully planned and placed in their spots (even though I know they must be). Or even worse, placed Willy-nilly wherever they can be squeezed in. I’m guilty of the latter, but space is at a premium here.

Ingrid, I had forgotten about your ‘Sweet Frances”. What a darling rose it’s growing up to be! I now remember your purchasing it from ARE. I do indeed see the bunny, “mooning” us with his cotton ball tail. ‘Eyes For You’, I have zero recollection of you adding, although I’m sure you must have mentioned it. I saw one somewhere, and found it SO very striking. It’s one that really calls to me, even though it’s not the type of bloom that I’m typically attracted to. The blooms remind me of some tree peony blooms. My fingers itch to get my hands on a bundle of ‘Eyes For You’ blooms to combine with a dark purple flower in an arrangement. It’s a unique, and beautiful rose.

Sheila, what a wonderful treat! You grow so many gorgeous roses. JH #3 looks quite happy. Do you think he's matured enough to be out of danger, barring some unexpected disaster? I hope so, as Jeri has shown that he's such spectacular rose. Your ‘La France’ has grown so much, gorgeous! I’m impressed with them all, but Mutabilis, Hermosa, and Glorie de Dijon are the “standouts” for me today. I’m delighted to see so many blooms on Glorie de Dijon! If you should have the time, I’d love to see some bloom closeups of GdD someday.

Lisa, thank you for your kind remarks. JesseH #3 does seem so solid now I feel he's past the danger zone. Over the years, if we have an outlier Winter who knows? I am really glad I kept trying. I do want all the roses to really feel comfortable and past that beginning iffy stage. That general 3-5 years to really establish is still ahead for quite a few of mine. My Mel's Heritage is still not blooming yet here and is on his first year for example. Yours gives me hope. I love your posts.

Lisa, thank you so much for your lovely comments. You are able to make me see my garden with new and more appreciative eyes. I tend to focus on the negatives, which is silly when, more than ever, we need to see the positive and the beautiful. I'll post photos of Eyes for You when the buds turn into flowers. I had two open blooms, but both were spoiled by the moisture so I didn't bother taking pictures. It's not really my kind of rose but I wanted some singles, and something different, among all the pink fluffies. It will be interesting to see how it does in the summer heat.

Sheila, I can't decide how I feel about Gloire de Dijon. I know it was a wildly popular rose, and it still has a reputation as a beautiful and desirable climber in certain climates, but I think I prefer the more "natural" beauty of Reve d'Or. However, some of the photos I've seen of the entire plant in bloom are breathtaking. I hope you'll post more photos when it flowers again.

I love this conversation! i imagine the pioneer roses should be good in your growing conditions as should Eyes for You. I personally adore the Hulthemia hybrids and as natives of Ira snhould tolerate and like hot and dry, I don't know what altitude they naturally grow in, but hope it does well for you. The singles have such a natural grace and beauty which suits your landscape.

Eyes for you was a great rose in LV, Ingrid. I suspect that it will be even better for you.

vapor, I couldn't agree more. I have two Pioneer roses, Cole's Settlement and Deanna Krause, and appreciate them both for their somewhat different and slightly rugged appearance. My surroundings are perfect for that look, and Eyes for You also works well with those very interesting single flowers. Desertgarden, that is the sweetest picture, which gives this rose an almost pansy-like appearance that is adorable. I suppose it's the unseasonably cool weather that's kept this rose from opening its buds. At one o'clock in the afternoon it's cloudy and the temperature is 60 degrees, and for June here this has to be some kind of record. However, I'm not complaining!
