'Desdemona'.... if you like it...

….makes a wonderful hedge... and for me it supersedes 'Iceberg' for this purpose... so much healthier in my climate, and graceful with it..

...sorry... I couldn't resist and didn't know when to stop..

..the blue flowers are Penstemon 'Westminster Belle'...

Very beautiful. I planted one this spring. I need to track down that penstemon.

Love it with the penstemon—that’s a gorgeous hedge!! :-)

Having dined yesterday at a lackluster restaurant with the ubiquitous five bushes of Iceberg fronting it, I couldn't agree more that almost any other rose should be planted instead. There must be a giant open-air warehouse somewhere in southern California that offers heavily discounted plants of Iceberg roses to office blocks, municipal buildings and small businesses.

Desdemona is a beautiful rose, and the grape-purple penstemon looks wonderful paired with it. You are so very much a gardener, with a finely honed sense of what to plant together to the best possible effect.

Ohhh I love this rose and a hedge of it is just amazing. I did not realize this rose could make a great hedge. Thank you for posting this Desdemona is one of my favorite Austins And your pictures like always are glorious. I makes me want to switch my Icebergs for Desdemona lol.

Sumptuous and floriferous, I can see why you are fond of it, Marlorena. The color is nice with the pink and cream shades.

The purple penstemon is a lovely accent color.

I’m with Ingrid on Iceberg. Our complex is saturated with it. They do also have plantings of the Brilliant Pink variety, and a little bit of the Burgundy, which I like better. I doubt the HOA would replace the Iceberg, because it is indestructible.

The yellow and white banksias which just finished blooming here are nice, and a welcome change.

I just purchased two Desdemonas and am definitely going to plant them together! How close should I plant them next to eachother, do you think?

Love all your shots of her. Simply beautiful.

Gorgeous!!! I'm also a Desdemona fan - I'm still trying to find the right conditions for it in my yard, but it's a wonderful rose.

I planted four this year from bare root, and while they're all growing and even blooming, one is teensy. I call that one "Moan-a." Does that mean there's something wrong with it or might it catch up eventually? They've all had the same life since I got them and there were no roses there before.

What gorgeous photos of a gorgeous rose, Marlorena! Desdemona is such a beauty, and very much “my style”. I see as many blooms and buds on yours as the CA regular, ‘Iceberg‘. It’s just so much more beautiful. I too, am grateful you thought ahead to post your penstemon’s variety. I was going to ask, as I’m sure many others would have. Before I got to the bottom of your post, I thought it might be a campanula of sorts. Those bells are lovely. You indeed have a wonderful eye for garden combinations. Thanks so much for showing us! It's one of my favorites and is super hardy here. Your hedge is wonderful, Marlorena. The scent alone is reason enough to have her. It may be my climate, but she changes color throughout the season, sometimes almost pure white, sometimes deep peach.
