From what I understand, hard wired chandies can be converted to plug ins. However, for safety reasons, I'd want an qualified electrician to do the actual conversion. You don't want a fire because of a DIY project gone wrong! That said, it might not be an inexpensive endeavor.

With a plug in, you'll have to be okay with a swag. Swags don't bother me, but for some, they're like nails on a chalkboard.

Some other ways to add "light" to a room are to consider your window coverings, use reflective surfaces as well as mirrors. Pruning/trimming any overgrown trees or shrubs can also let in more light.

We have many folks on the forum who know lots about the different types of bulbs. Hopefully, someone will chime in to that effect.

Get an arc lamp and arc it over the table.

How tall is the ceiling? How far down do you want the chandelier to hang?

Have you considered wiring that runs along the surface, such as wire mold? It could be cheaper to install than new wiring inside the wall and ceiling.

The Ceiling is I think around 16/18 feet. I have never heard of wire mold. I never thought of how far down I would hang it. I just need some light. Thank you for your time

16-18 feet up means that you have to have a safe way to get up there to install a hook with a heavy chandelier, track lighting, or other sources of light. Usually, that means a pro with ladder or possibly scaffolding. It might be worth it to you to pay an hour's consulting fee for a licensed electrician to come out to explain options.

Big box stores and amazon carry pendant to shag light conversion kits to DIY pendants to a hanging plug in light. It's actually not a complicated thing to do and there are many instructions online, although previous experience with wiring fixtures is recommended. With that said the light you choose to do this conversion on plays a factor on safety. You do not want more amp/watts running through a lamp cord than what it is rated for. Make sure the maximum combined watt rating on the fixture does not exceed the maximum rating of the cord.

I'd be most concerned with the height of ceiling and making sure you have a safe way to get up there to hang it. Also be sure that you know the location of ceiling truss or joist so that you can be sure that the hook is well anchored and make sure that whatever hook you use has a weight rating with a good margin. Have you talked to anyone about how much it would cost to do the work to add an actual ceiling fixture?

Another idea for a temporary solution until you can save money for a proper fixture (or wait for an experienced relative to put in a fixture for you) is get creative with string lights. While intended for outdoors, it can create a unique indoor lighting solution. Though it only tends to work well with certain decorating styles.
