Coast to Coast to replace lazy Jimmy Crack Corn?

I have a 4 year old Jimmy Crack Corn that has never produced more than 3 leaves. Was a 2L pot when planted. Meanwhile, plants nearby have grown very well. This is my "Hosta Paradise" bed, where plants fight to get in. I've lost patience with Lazy Jimmy, who doesn't know when he's got it good. He can go out BACK! To the slope! Or the swamp!

Thinking about trading it for a Shadowland Coast to Coast I bought last fall and planted in a holding bed. Coast to Coast was very big, many eyes, when I bought it. So far it's only put out a few leaves. But based on what it was when planted, I am expecting a pretty full plant. The holding bed is rather shady so I think that may slow emergence.

Can anyone compare these 2? Some good height in that spot would be good. It's backed by a Blue Angel. Coast To Coast is supposed to get tall, 30". Jimmy was supposed to get to 24" . The reality was more like 6".

I am also wondering if either of these is exceptionally slow. Or is they have unusual requirements like shallow planting, need more sun, etc.

Awww, but he is sooo cute.

Can you pot him up or move to another location? Sometimes mine seem to need the recuperative benefit of a pot. (Not Maryjane type pot).

I hesitate to plant in pots. Storing them over winter gets to be a problem. Thus far I've kept that to minis. I already grow a LOT of things in pots, and keeping them watered has reached critical mass.

I have other locations : just not prime ones. Soil is not as good, moisture can be uneven. Slope or swamp.

I can’t remember where you live, linnea56, but Coast To Coast has done poorly in my southern garden.

Thanks, Lindalana. You must be the only person I've talked to who has had success with Jimmy Crack Corn! But hostas must be thrilled to live in your garden.

I've decided to dig up Jimmy and move him to a pot. See what happens for the summer. I'm not a huge fan of growing hostas in pots, except minis. Not that they don't look good that way: just because I have too many pots to water as it is.

I'll move Coast to Coast into that spot. C to C is also not doing much in the holding bed, but it was huge last fall when I planted it. Just waking up slowly, I expect.
