Petunia Blossom

This is a hanging basket. There was no tag identifying the type of petunia. I noticed most of the flowers had white splotches on them after getting rained on. Pretty disappointed that it looks like I'll have to pay close attention to the weather forecast for rain to bring it inside. Why does this occur?
