Need some help with sofa selection

My sofa has barely lasted 4 years. The frame is good but the fabric hasn't held up at all. Mostly due to my cat(who doesn't live with us any longer). Got an estimate of 5K to reupholster.. doesn't make sense.

I found this Mitchell Gold/Bob Williams sofa nearby.

I love the look, but concerned about the color. Our current living room pics below(pardon the lived in look)

So you can see my style is rustic mid century modern. I really love the sleek lines of MCM sofas. I am replacing the fugly recliner and getting a bigger coffee table. My plan is to replace the sectional with a large sofa and two chairs where the 'bed' is and perhaps two chairs on the other side(but at least one). Green chairs in corner are staying. Green cabinet is staying but can be painted.

Can I make this golden yellow tan color work? Tie it in with pillows. I'm open to a new rug. Current one is too light and hard to keep clean.

Posting only on conversations 'cause I'm scared of the pros on the other side!

I think it would work fine. It picks up the tones in your china cabinet and the stone in the fireplace. Maybe get a rug that has the same colors as your drapes? Pillows and throws will tone it down if you think it's too bold. I like the sofa.

I agree with Joaniepoanie. I think it will look great. I have a decorator friend and she highly recommends MG/BW for sofas.

ps I used to think that it was crazy that people would buy good furniture and then have it destroyed by cats. I'm sitting here looking at our once beautiful 3 year old Lee Industries linen slipcovered sofa and wondering how we managed to let the cats destroy it.

The sofa you're considering looks gold on my screen. In my world, that's pretty neutral and from what I can see of your living room, it will work.

It looks like you are basically layering neutrals and I think the texture would add some interest. The thing I am least sure about is the wall color. Are you willing to repaint if needed once . the sofa was in the room or would that set off a chain reaction?

I like your pillows. Can you take the pillows with you and see if they work on the couch. I know it's a silly reason to make a decision but I do like them.

The MG sofa has really great lines - and if some day in the distant future you decide you want to reupholster it then you know you have a good frame underneath and that it would be worth the $.

Love your living room - and the view out the windows. You must be at your PA place. We're heading up to our place in Pike County sometime this weekend for a much delayed visit.

I had to chuckle at your fear of 'the other side' - I just don't go there.

Seller is out of town till Thursday so will be going to look then.

@daisychain - In defense of my cat, this fabric pulled if he just jumped on the couch. He really didn't claw at it. I never had such delicate fabric. It wasn't a cheap couch either.. BoConcept about $3.5K. Although we don't have a cat any longer, I do have 2 grandcats who come to visit from time to time.

Thanks all for your comments. They really help when I second guess myself!

@Maire_cate - yes we are back in PA for the summer. We should meet for lunch in Milford some day.

I love the new sofa- the lines and the color are classic and will suit your place well, I think.

There are so many choices in MCM style sofas now. That one is really nice, but if you get another cat, that will be the end of it.

We have a vintage MCM sofa we bought at an estate auction and the originally upholstery lasted over 50 years. Well, you know where this is going with our kitties. They do not like this new fabric at all, so that is good. It cost us about $900 for the fabric and fabric, which was extremely cheap. Two different kitties in the photos--gray and white and then brown and white. The first one is no longer with us. :(

I adore that sofa! It is really nice and has wonderful lines. I also love the color and texture. I think it will look stunning in your space.

But the cat issues wouldn't stop me from getting it!
