it would look great in a ski house. Looks like an Amish country hand made piece.

As far as a pedestial table which will look for years: if you are willing to make the table a long term investment, I suggest you look at the higher end furniture lines. Usually pieces of quality never go out of style and keep their value.

As for the pedestal itself, legs interfere with how many chairs you can place.

Antique shops and considgnment shops maybe your best bet finding a table that has already stood the test of time, and will continue.

I love a turned wood pedestal.

That table you show would defeat the whole purpose of a pedestal since the legs stick out too far.

Judy, I agree, the turned pedestal is actually my first choice and what I've been looking for the most. The only ones I have found in a 54" round table are either a mixture of veneer and wood or if solid wood, they have feet rather than the round base. Ethan Allen's has feet but they do not even offer a 54" size anyway. Bassett Bench-Made solid maple Tavern pedestal has large feet but I love their finish options. The Amish store does have a beautiful one but the turned pedestal with the round base is made from one large piece of wood so it runs well over 3k just for the table. Still doable for me but just looking at other options. I lost everything in the Harvey flood so starting over furnishing a home is costly to say the least. Just want to make good long term decisions.

I would look at CL and eBay. I just popped over to Century Furniture because i knew they had a lovely center table like the one Judy posted- the base is not made of wood.

Bear in mind the highest quality furniture is made with veneers. There is nothing wrong with those and people who are better versed than I am in the subject can explain the hows and whys. But a base made of resin on a table that looks like wood is too much for me.
