HI there, are you having issues posting photos? What happens when you try to upload a photo to a discussion post?

I suspect a lot of people who run into problems posting photos are trying to post un-resized files directly from their phone or camera. The files are probably too big and the upload may time out, or the user may submit before the upload is complete.

I'd suggest to users to ensure that the images they try to upload are a reasonable size for sharing on a forum...800kb or less should be plenty.

I'd suggest to Houzz to 1) Change the image placeholder to make it more clear that it's just a placeholder 2) Add some text below the toolbar to inform users about image file sizes.

i finally got it to work for me bkay In fact it worked so good on posting of my front and back waterfall it did it twice . I deleted one and thanks for the kind words but think that was the one I deleted along with a few others I should have copied their names too . . It seems to be working okay now and posted another picture in comments to see. I don;t resize my pictures and have the camera set for best setting but some seem to take way longer then others to clear before they are finished so you can post . No wonder there is so little going on on here now. No one wants to take the hour time to get it completed and finally say the heck with it. I better go do some more weeding as they seem to take forever to finish also

Faye, I'm like you, I set my camera to record best jpg AND RAW, and then if I want to post the picture here in a thread, I compress the original and save it as a compressed copy which is the one I post and delete from my drive once the post has gone through. I use an old program from I think 2002 called ACDsee 5.0 and I still use it because it's a quick picture viewer AND it lets me compress/resize a picture when I'm viewing it, I don't have to open up my photo editor to do that.

I know even the compressed pictures I upload are compressed again by houzz but it's pointless uploading full-res camera or phone shots because they took too long to upload.

I post a lot of pictures to the forum discussion groups, and I do downsize my photos to make them easier to load. My camera takes large pictures, but I downsize them to no more than 1000 pixels wide and 300kb file size. This is a sample.

Participants can click on such a photo to see a larger version of it.

I know this is old, but just chiming in to say this is still happening. Why are there no clear rules indicated by Houzz?

I hadn't posted much before, but last week I started a thread with a number of pix with no consideration to size. Posted fine. A couple of times that worked. Then, posts with less, similar-sized images began to disappear after appearing to post.

I did notice that at first the uploaded pix are ghosted, but eventually clear up and that's when I click to post, only to have the whole post just disappear into the ether.

Very frustrating, Houzz!

I'm having the same issues as Sarah Thompson except my pix remain ghosted, the 'submit' button first ghosts & then clears, I hit 'submit', then everything disappears.

I don’t go through houzz to get to the forum. I go in through gardenweb.com.
