Will a single stack curtain work?

I need help figuring out how to dress these windows! There is less than a foot between the tall windows and the transoms. We are not trying to cover the transoms. I am thinking that stacking a curtain panel to each side is really the only option that won’t look strange. What do you all think?

Also, if I do this, would I do the same on the side window? I’m thinking I should to keep the look simple and deliberate.

Finally, one last question: how would a brown look? We will be repainting the room though I don’t know the color yet. It will be in the gray family. The carpet will be the color it is. I am thinking of going with the color Mink by RH.

Help!

I don't think brown will work because grey is a cool color and brown is a warm color--think colors associated with autumn -- I would order drapes in the same color family as the walls. You can buy the drapes and then get paint color cards in the gray family to see what works best in the light of your room. I don't see the navy on your bed working with both brown and grey.

I usually am not one for valances, but I’m making an exception for your window design. Single panels on either side. Do the same for the one window, as well.

Fabric? Your photos are dim, but find one with the wall, bed and the bedside tables colors mixed. The sample is from Regal Drapes.

Consider moving the tables in front of the windows and add wall decor over the headboard.

I like your windows as they are and would not look at adding draperies.

    Long and short curtains:

P.S. I think brown curtains will work depending on the color you paint the room. Your carpet looks warm, so a warm gray paint should be fine.

I would not do drapes at all. Don’t see that it’s an improvement at all. A taller headboard for sure.

Thanks for all the input and ideas. We do want to add some kind of drape to block at least a little light. It is extremely bright in the morning. However, maybe even a sheer white would help.

Our room looks very bare so I thought drapes would add some interest and texture too. We need artwork and are thinking of adding a chair for the corner. We do not like a lot of “stuff” so that may be all we do unless we can think of something better.

    Thanks again.

I think a simple shear hung from a rod close to the ceiling would look great. Make sure you have the fullness right and I would let them puddle on the floor. If light control is a problem, there are lots of blind companies that carry motorized blinds. One thing, is your bed a queen size? It looks dwarfed by the windows. I think what would look better is a king size with a much taller headboard that filled the space more. And with a wider bed, I would centre your night tables on the windows. As for mixing browns and greys? Love it! That's one of my favourite colour combos. Just make sure you go with the right shade. The grey should be warm.

no. put a curtain in the entire wall

I see no need for curtains here, especially if you are minimalist.

I believe a lot of light comes in through the transom windows so if morning light is issue hang drapery just under ceiling. Get light control drapery. I think a drape with some interest would be best. A leading edge trim or blocks of color as someone mentioned a larger/taller headboard that works better with night stands and a bench for foot of bed. Taller lamps would help too.

I would do like Flo showed but maybe think about it as one wall of windows instead of individual windows: in other words a rod across the whole wall, a wide stack of curtains on each side, a layer of sheers that can close over the transoms. Then treat the single window with the scales down version: one panel on each side and sheers under.

Believe it or not, this is a king size bed! I can appreciate what you all are saying about the larger headboard but it is a 3-year old Ethan Allen bed that we love so I don’t think we will be replacing soon. It was bought for our previous house. We plan to put some abstract artwork there above the bed. Will be changing the pillow covers because I’m tired of the navy.

Love the idea of the taller lamps and I had never thought of doing a rod across the whole wall. Such a thing exists?!

We do not have a dresser as we do capsule wardrobes and have drawers in our closet and therefore, no need. I like the console table in there... never thought of that either.

Lots to think about! Thanks all!!

Art over your headboard will serve same purpose. That is to elevate the eye from low headboard. Are your nightstands new? They look low and small to scale of bed. You could use Bachelor chests. They are bigger and would help balance your wall.

The nightstands are fairly new and we picked what we liked with little regard for the height and size. But we could repurpose them to a different bedroom if needed. The positioning of the windows is awkward. If we move the nightstands to the window they will be a mile away from the bed. That would look odd I would think. So maybe it does need to be a bigger piece of furniture but then the furniture and a tall lamp would block our nice view out of the window. I wish the proportions on this wall were better! I thought the drapes might help soften up the stark geometric/boxy look of the windows. We love the light and view though!

I'm with Flo-repurpose the too-small night stands. You have lots of room-use it to balance the size of your bed. I would look in to small antique chests of drawers. The room is kind of industrial (like a hotel) looking, and antiques would warm it up and personalize it A lot. For this reason I'm also not feeling the brown and gray but maybe if you unify it with more dramatic bedding.

a wall of drapes is definitely a thing. Covering the small widows with sheers could definitely soften the look. Every time I added furniture and window treatments to my home I worried about "the view." Your eye adjusts around the obstacles and you don't miss it at all. Especially when your room goes from drab to fab.

I don’t have advice on window treatment, but I just want to tell you how lovely and peaceful your room is! In my opinion the proportions of the furnishings are perfect for the minimalistic look you’re going for. Some art above the bed might be nice, but only if it is beautiful and meaningful to you and not just chosen to fill up a space.
