Do you know where you want to move them to? If so why not just do it and skip the pot step. Unless, of course, you have to lift tulips in your location to ensure they return. In which case why not just dig them after they die down and store them.

You are creating unnecessary work by potting them up. If possible wait two or three more weeks until the foliage has died down. Perhaps put some markers there now so you may find the bulbs. Dig them up and break off the dead foliage and air-dry them in a shaded place then store them in a cool basement until replanting them at the proper time in October. Good luck with them.

I’ve dug them up right after they flowered, but before the leaves die back, and planted them in the new location, and they came back the next spring... if they were the kind that naturalize anyways... so I wouldn’t bother putting them up and waiting until the fall to plant them.

I just finished replanting them and only managed to cut through one of the 12 bulbs :-)
